SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/27
Ok folks, these pics are from LAST NIGHT when things were looking really great. Highs today in the high 30s and even low 40s as well as lots of sunshine definitely hurt our cause. Our groomers that went out this morning reported that conditions were excellent on the way out but had already deteriorated by their return trip in most areas.
All trails are now soft and some have wet areas. There will be also be moguls, especially on the high traffic trails such as trail 8. We are suspending grooming until at least Monday when temps drop below freezing. Please use caution on all trails. Watch for moguls and wet spots. We are downgrading all trails to fair. Here’s the run down….
City Trails- soft with sloppy corners and some wet spots, moguls on the straightaways
Trail 49- Soo to Kinross- soft with lots of wet spots near the swamp areas
Trail 472 and 480- Kinross to Rudyard and Raco- soft with bare shoulders along the road. Some wet areas
Trail 49, 494 and 472- Kinross south to Pickford- soft with some moguls
Mission Hill trail 889- good, but will have some moguls and soft snow
Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley and Brimley to Raco- very soft, some wet spots and moguls
We will do our best when we can get out to make these trails last as long as possible. Ride safe!❄️❄️❄️

From Groomer Warren this morning. Trail 480 was looking awesome! It is warm and sunny now and we know conditions will deteriorate quickly. We will do what we can when it’s below freezing. Ride safe and watch for changing conditions such as wet spots and bare road shoulders.
Big thanks to Warren and all of our volunteers!❄️❄️❄️
We picked up about 3” last night which will help with the road shoulders and filling in low spots. It’s supposed to be 39 today so conditions may change rapidly. We will be out grooming when it’s below freezing. Ride safe!❄❄❄
SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 02/26
We had a high of 38 today and it was partly sunny. No doubt that melted the snow off of the road shoulders and made the trails slightly sloppier than yesterday. Groomers are reporting that trails are still in good shape in most of our 100+ mile trail system. Areas where the trail is along the road shoulder are down to pavement. There will also be puddles along the road shoulders. There are some spots where water is saturating the trail but nothing major and our groomers are filling those spots in as best they can. We are grooming as long as the temp stays below freezing. There is a chance of snow all weekend, possibly 2-5”. It will be a very busy weekend so please remember to ride right, watch for other riders and our groomers and be respectful of our landowners.
See you on the trails!❄❄❄

While much of the UP picks up an inch or less of snow, higher totals up to 1-3in will be possible over the far eastern UP. SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/23/26 On the move again! As reports come in, I’ll be sure to share. Things will be hard packed and scratchers may be needed until they loosen up again. Potential for a couple inches of snow mid week again. Roads and shoulders are bare now, so gas and road crossings are a bit challenging, but that’s spring riding. What a season! Ride safe all! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo03233/23/26

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/21/26 Wow! I am so pleasantly surprised how well the trails held up today!! Sugar Island Chris DID groom 8 this morning from the Soo to Brimley. For those that have been asking, the bay in Brimley is starting to show some slushy spots. While I wish I was hopping in the groomer, it’s just too warm and they are pretty darn good anyway! Shout out to Mackinac County Snowmobile Association , Les Cheneaux Snowmobile Club & Grooming Report, and the Chippewa Snowchasers for their great trails today too! Lots of people out enjoying the day. We had heavy wet snow, then freezing rain, then back to snow. 150 miles of smiles here in the far EUP. I hope you got to enjoy it too! Incredible, especially for March 21st! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo #soo0321f#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. A glaze of ice will also be possible in a few spots this morning and again tonight. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaA pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 3/21/26 Good morning all! Unfortunately, it stayed too warm overnight for us to send groomers out. We are supposed to get 4-6” of snow beginning later this morning, and temps are supposed to drop late tonight, so we’ll get back out as soon as we can! I rode last night and trails were holding up beautifully. They’ll get a little beat up today with Saturday traffic. I’ll be out riding today to check things out before I hop in the groomer tonight. Ride safe, ride right, ride sober! ❄️❄️❄️ #soo ... See MoreSee Less
