IRONWOOD / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Gogebic Range Trail Authority – ORV & Snowmobile Club – 02/26
Yesterday’s warmth and unexpected sun plus today’s 40+ and sun all day will greatly impact trails. We have downgraded all trails to fair condition. Spring riding conditions are here. If you can wait, Monday-Tuesday riding next week looks to be MUCH better with 4-8" forecast! We did not groom last night. We suggest riding trail 160 (Banks were groomed down to help with bare road issue last weekend) or dropping at one of the many park and ride’s in Wakefield. We’re grooming month old snow and there is much more on the northern 1/2 of Gogebic Area Grooming (Lake Gogebic) trails as well as North Country Snowmobile Club UP who groom Lake of the Clouds. They are all grooming nightly and the videos they share with us look VERY Good, we just didn’t get the week of Lake Effect they did after the last big storm. Our trails will be rideable but they will get tough in spots.
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> After a quiet and sunny afternoon, expect increasing clouds tonight ahead of a quick batch of light snow showers late tonight into Tuesday morning. While much of the UP picks up an inch or less of snow, higher totals up to 1-3in will be possible over the far eastern UP. Moderate snowfall rates may lead to reduced visibility and slick roadways in the eastern UP during the Tuesday morning commute. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #sooAfter a quiet and sunny afternoon, expect increasing clouds tonight ahead of a quick batch of light snow showers late tonight into Tuesday morning. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> Put on 130 miles with Art today! What a ride. 🙌 With the surgery and the new baby, this ended up being my first and last ride of the season with my buddy—and it definitely didn’t disappoint. We ran from Ontonagon to Sidnaw via Trail 12 over to 174, and honestly… 95% of the ride was excellent. 👌 The kind of riding you hope for this time of year. Sure, there were a few slushy stretches and some bare spots starting to open up by the end of the day, but get into the woods and there’s still a solid base. If you’re itching to squeeze in a few more miles this season, heading south and east out of Ontonagon is still very much worth it. And never forget… “It’s not about the miles. It’s about the smiles.” 😄 #ontonagon #westernup#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Trail Report 3/22: We went out and inspected some of our system and found Ma Nature had done some real damage. The trails are rideable and some are still in good condition. Unfortunately to safely get groomers to those areas we have to cross swamps, open water, running water and failing snow bridges. We are going to cease grooming operations and barring an unexpected change in the forecast, will not restart. We had a hard season and really need more help, if you have a desire to groom, please p.m. us. Thank you for coming up, thank you for all the kind words, see ya next year and ride the 906!!! #ontonagon #westernupTrail Report 3/22:

A few light snow showers will be possible in the higher terrain of the western half through tonight, with minimal accumulations less than an inch. LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> Bergland Area Groomer's update, 3-21-26. Last Groom was Wednesday 3-18-26 and conditions were pretty decent at that time. Unfortunately this warmup has likely taken it's toll. It's that time of year where we start putting everything away and regrouping for next season. Was this season perfect? Absolutely not! We've had some personnel changes and some mechanical issues that plagued us the last few weeks that really put us behind. Believe it or not we did have machine's or a machine running 7 day's a week when the weather allowed. Maybe not covering the area's you would like but what we thought was best. Our goal is to give everyone the best experience possible when possible. We would like to thank all our Groomer operators, all the local businesses and especially the diehard snowmobiler's that come to Western U.P. every season! Thank you from Gogebic Area Grooming ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic#westernup#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> A pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. A glaze of ice will also be possible in a few spots this morning and again tonight. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaA pair of systems will bring a wintry mix of precipitation to the U.P. today into tonight. ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> Trail Report 3/20: We finished our ride yesterday on Trail 137 to Trail 13 to 101 to 12 back to White Pine. The snow had turned to mashed potatoes but trails for the most part were smooth and holding up well. There are bare spots, standing water, running water, deteriorating snow bridges, and any roadside trail is bare, pretty typical late season riding. Friday should still be a good day for riding. Due to high temps we have halted all grooming operations. Will go back out Sunday to assess the damage Ma Nature is causing. Ride the 906. #ontonagon #westernup#snowphotosTrail Report 3/20:
