KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western & Southern UP Trail Reports – 02/22 My buddy Glenn doing his thing early in the morning keeping things in shape for ya in Toivola. <> KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports – 02/22 Well we try to share the good, the bad and the ugly so all riders can be informed on conditions in the area….. this is one of those bad…. to actually almost ugly posts…. As you know the club has had a string of bad luck when it comes to actual grooming equipment….. 4 of the 5 machines were broke down. One machine was repaired today and both running machines are currently out grooming. The warm temps the area experienced today are also not favorable in regards to trails even having a chance to “set up” Parts are supposed to be in for two more of the machines and I believe the club hopes to have them running yet this week sometime…I can assure you the Groomer Operators are doing ALL that they can possibly do to try to provide the best possible trails. I just want you to know the reality of the situation as of today…. A local rider who spends a lot of time on the trails had this to say about today’s ride “As far as trails go, I would honestly recommend people stay away until things improve. Usually by Keweenaw standards our “poor”may be “fair to good” to people from other areas, however this is about the worst I’ve seen it, in February anyways. I only rode Brockway, Lac La Belle Loop and the Eagles Loop…couldn’t take it anymore, stopping at Eagle Harbor Inn and heading back.” <> Keweenaw Trail Reports on Facebook >>>> <> WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> After a quiet and sunny afternoon, expect increasing clouds tonight ahead of a quick batch of light snow showers late tonight into Tuesday morning. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Expect mostly dry weather today through Monday as a cold front exits the U.P. this morning. A few light snow showers will be possible in the higher terrain of the western half through tonight, with minimal accumulations less than an inch. Most locations will struggle to get above freezing today, with the exception of areas near Lake Michigan. Night time temps are still staying below freezing and days looks like it 30s ❄️ The parking lots/plowed areas around here are melting down so where ever you can find snow feel free to park your sled! Here is a update from Tim & Robin who has been here for the last few days (come up throughout the winter) ❄️ North of Houghton yesterday the trails were groomed and in good shape. Thursday we rode north it was beautiful, South of Sidnaw they do get a little more rough. Iron River is where the line is drawn really bad. They are rideable but if they haven’t groomed they’re will be mogal. Some water holes and open dirt on most trails also. But you can hit a really good 10 to 20 miles without dirt or water. ❄️ Thank you for the update!! A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. I met this awesome group today at the Mosquito during my Meet and Greet. So I sent them down trail 109 to Alston and the second pic is what they made for me to enjoy when I groom again. Thanks for supporting Western UP Trail Reports and I hope you find me next year when your up riding.
