Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 02/15
It’s a sunny cold 16 degrees in downtown Frederic, I thought for presidents day riders would stick around but havent had a sled in all morning. The motels were pretty empty this morning with only 7 trailers left at the Ramada and zero at the Days Inn. It’s now half past noon and of course we had no new snow overnight as usual. Weather is saying system snow on thursday (yea right)
My friend Frank who lives in San Antonio Texas sent me a video from his house of it snowing and blowing very hard there. Why does all the luck with the snow go to the people that live south of Grand Rapids…….I had someone turn in a cell phone yesterday and I put it on the charger and it fired up after a while, called the last number on it and that made for a happy guy. He had walked the trail all over trying to find it so it was good it got turned in here.
Also been meaning to write about this with the guy from the u.p. last week and the bag that I found on the trail outside of Strongs, I left the bag on a trail marker post there and the owner called me on it but he went and looked for it and didn’t find it. But somehow someone picked it up and took it to the Soo and he did end up getting it back. So that was good for him……It will be interesting to see if southern michigan and states beyond that get slammed with this storm coming tonight.

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Good morning everyone. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. ... #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyGood morning everyone. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. If you're heading north of M-55, a wintry mix will greet you. Snow totals of an inch, perhaps more will be possible, and a snow map will be out in a bit to showcase totals on a statewide basis. Meanwhile, summer is here temporarily as showers and storms move in by late afternoon south of Grand Rapids and Flint. High temperatures will be in the 60s, and even low-70s, especially south of I-94. More warmth means more fuel for storms though, so on a day like today, you should be rooting against warmer high temperatures to avoid severe weather. Speaking of temperatures, just an insane gradient from north to south. High temperatures in the low-20s for the Keweenaw Peninsula, while areas just south of the Michigan state line jump to near 80°F. Precipitation will start early up north, while southern Michigan doesn't start seeing shower activity until afternoon. More details to come in a bit on our severe weather, but the peak timing along and south of I-94 for severe weather will be after 3 pm EDT. Main severe weather hazard today will be very large hail, so it's probably a good idea to protect your valuables today if you're in the southern two rows of counties, just out of an abundance of caution. Bare with us today, it's a lot of information, but we've got you covered from beginning to end.
