HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club – 01/21 Not much to update as far as the trail conditions.. we only got 1-3 inches of snow on Tuesday, our gates are still closed and we haven’t started grooming. We are supposed to get some lake effect tonight and tomorrow so we will see what that brings. <> WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Lake effect snow showers continue today, heaviest near and south of Grand Traverse Bay. Matt is heading south on 76 from Chandler Hill Road to our turn around with Jordan Valley. The green dot are groomers. Everything was groomed other than the Alanson Trail & Cross Village loop. The Alanson trail has the least amount of snow on our system & there are still some open water holes but overall the trails are in good shape. Several inches of snow is expected across parts of northwest lower and the eastern U.P. by Saturday morning with additional lake effect snow continuing through Saturday. Below zero wind chills are expected for most areas late tonight through Saturday. Wind gusts of 25-35+ mph will lead to patchy blowing/drifting snow, especially across open areas. Quickly dropping temps tonight may freeze wet roads by Saturday morning. Trees are continuing to fall from the ice storm damage earlier this year so please keep that in mind when out riding & especially in high winds. If you come across a down tree & are unable to safely remove it from the trail please let us know.
Temperatures are supposed to stay cold through the weekend & we are expected to get another 2-6 inches of snow. There is a warm up predicted Tuesday-Thursday with possible rain, we are hoping that changes but we will keep everyone updated.
