SAULT STE. MARIE UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association – 01/20
Good morning! Here in the Soo, we got about 8” of new snow in the last day. We groomed the city trails last night and they are in good shape for the most part. Word is that our surrounding areas did not get as much snow as we did. A groomer went out from the Soo west to Brimley this morning and there is less snow but it groomed up well. Snow is in the forecast all week!❄️❄️❄️
WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Today, the morning fog and freezing drizzle will give way to a quiet but warmer than normal day. Fog returns tonight, though the weather remains quiet until a system passes south of the UP Thursday afternoon, bringing a wintry mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow to the UP, though the heaviest rain will fall along the Lake Michigan shores. Once this round of precip wraps up Friday afternoon, attention then turns to the potential for weekend snowfall, though plenty of scenarios are still possible, so those with weekend plans sensitive to winter weather should monitor the forecast. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsareaToday, the morning fog and freezing drizzle will give way to a quiet but warmer than normal day. SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/7/26 Good morning everyone! Bryan and his son Logan hit the city trails last night, ahead of the little warm up we’re having through Friday. As all operators have been saying, the snow is still very soft, which does make moguls appear faster. Things smoothed out really nicely, and this thaw/refreeze cycle will really help lock in the trails now. The tunnel under I75 was gathering more snow than we’d like as we have to be mindful of the Tucker clearance, so he worked on pushing some of that out of there. Thank you Bryan and Logan! This was likely the last grooming run until Friday as we get through the next few days of warmer temps. Everywhere is as flat as we can get it until Friday. Today marks 1 month until the greatest race on ice, the International 500 Snowmobile Race! We’ll be in the brand new vendor pavilion, where Sugar Island Chris and crew will be serving up the worlds best hot cocoa, and answering your questions about our club and the trails that we maintain. I plan to head up to the track often and I’ll update how the ice is looking over the next month. Make plans to be here! You can ride your sled to and from the track. Saturday, February 7th! Hope to see you here! 🏁 ❄️🥶 #soo #soo0107#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 1/5/26 This is wild to me! Dennis just got back from his run on trail 49 from the Soo to 12 mile. I ran this route with groomer Jay for several seasons. The branches being this low on 1/5 is nuts! This entire trail was brushed, but the base is so tall now that the machine is so much higher that it’s hitting the branches that couldn’t be reached in the fall. We don’t usually see this until mid February. We may need to organize a work bee to do some in-season brushing. I’ll share if we do! Thank you Dennis and Chris for the ride along! #soo #soo0105a#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
