KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western & Southern UP Trail Reports – 1/1/2021 Watched the sun rise as I left the barn this morning. No fresh snow in 2 days now but its staying cold at 11° this morning. Trail 3 from Atlantic Mine to Dollar Bay was in pretty good shape. Other than along the canal and under the bridge was pretty wooped up. Heading south to Toivola is in very good shape due to more snow. I’ll be out tomorrow with another trainee. KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western & Southern UP Trail Reports – 01/01 TRAIL REPORT NORTH OF HOUGHTON Trail 124 remains closed for logging. Trails 134/135 to Copper Harbor, 134 would be the best choice for traveling to Copper Harbor, as 135 needs more snow for better conditions. 134 to High Rock is being groomed today but early reports are more snow is needed. If you are not up here riding now….. do you have your first trip booked? <> Keweenaw Convention & Visitors Bureau December 28 Snowfall & Weather Houghton County has received a total of 61.4″ of snow for the season and Keweenaw County has received 48.3″ of snow for the season.* Today: Winter weather advisory remains in effect until 7 pm for northern Houghton county. Lake effect snow of 2”-5”. High 21F. Low 10F. • Snowmobile Trail Conditions Snowmobile trails are in early season condition throughout the Keweenaw. Groomers are out brushing and panning the trails. Up to 14 inches of snow on the ground. Watch out for rocks, wet spots and other impediments as snow levels are low. High Rock and Brockway Mountain are not open yet due to low snow. MDNR Trail 133 is closed but has signed reroutes and MDNR Trail 134 to Copper Harbor is OPEN. Trail Closures: The trail section from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden (a portion of Trail 3) and the Freda Trail (Trails 121 & 120) will be closed the entire season for repair. <> Keweenaw Trail Reports on Facebook >>>> <> WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Expect mostly dry weather today through Monday as a cold front exits the U.P. this morning. A few light snow showers will be possible in the higher terrain of the western half through tonight, with minimal accumulations less than an inch. Most locations will struggle to get above freezing today, with the exception of areas near Lake Michigan. Night time temps are still staying below freezing and days looks like it 30s ❄️ The parking lots/plowed areas around here are melting down so where ever you can find snow feel free to park your sled! Here is a update from Tim & Robin who has been here for the last few days (come up throughout the winter) ❄️ North of Houghton yesterday the trails were groomed and in good shape. Thursday we rode north it was beautiful, South of Sidnaw they do get a little more rough. Iron River is where the line is drawn really bad. They are rideable but if they haven’t groomed they’re will be mogal. Some water holes and open dirt on most trails also. But you can hit a really good 10 to 20 miles without dirt or water. ❄️ Thank you for the update!! First of all, Happy New Year to all! Sorry for no update yesterday, groomers were out in full force all day!
Trail 3 from Mohawk to Clear Lake is in decent early season shape. TRAIL 3 IS OPEN FROM CLEAR LAKE JUNCTION OVER BROCKWAY MOUNTAIN! Gates are open but conditions are thin.
Trail 122 to Gay is thin to fair, with some water hazards operators are working to repair.
Trail 130 to Eagle River/Eagle Harbor was groomed for the first time yesterday, conditions were fair with a good amount of snow in the higher elevations, but thinning near the lakeshore.
Trail 132 East/West to Lac La Belle are in good early season conditions.
Trail 17 from Mohawk to Hancock is in fair early season condition, with thinner spots between Kearsarge and Mohawk.
All trails are still in early season shape and bumpy in spots due to high traffic. Ride Carefully and enjoy!
Also for those not familiar with the regulations, ANY WHEELED VEHICLES ARE PROHIBITED ON TRAIL. We have had two incidents of cars on our trails already this year!

! It may still be early season conditions but the trails are beginning to shape up nicely. Groomer Operators really moved all that fresh snow that fell yesterday to lay down some nice trail conditions.

I met this awesome group today at the Mosquito during my Meet and Greet. So I sent them down trail 109 to Alston and the second pic is what they made for me to enjoy when I groom again. Thanks for supporting Western UP Trail Reports and I hope you find me next year when your up riding.
