A few light snow showers will be possible in the higher terrain of the western half through tonight, with minimal accumulations less than an inch. Most locations will struggle to get above freezing today, with the exception of areas near Lake Michigan. A clipper will spread a mix of rain, snow, and freezing rain across the area this morning, changing to all rain from west to east as temperatures climb above freezing in the afternoon, reaching as high as the mid 50s in the west. A cold front then drops across the U.P. and brings another round of mixed precip tonight, changing to all snow towards Sunday morning. Generally expect minimal snow amounts across most of the U.P., but some spots in the Keweenaw and the east could pick up 1-3” through Sunday morning. Alger SORVA pulled a day shift assist and smashed down our problem areas with the Bison today, but that didn’t stop us from getting into a bind with too much snow! The tunnel under 41 had a 3’ (settled height) drift down the entire length and it was too much to push through. We are close to the roof of the machine during normal operas we scrape it down close to the bottom. One of our operators threw his personal track loader on a trailer and came to the rescue. Between the track loader and the Deere, we were able to clear the tunnel out and get back to grooming. NO SNOW – NO CHANGES
This measurement was taken yesterday in Shingleton, some areas have more. A few riders are out but you can see they are running the gravel underneath. We might see a few inches of Lake Effect Snow over the next day or so but no substantial amounts listed. Hope for the best and continue the snow dances. LAKE EFFECT SNOW ENGINE SPUTTERING
We did get 4 to 5 inches of snowfall over the last few days but still not enough to do anything productive. Lake Effect Snow is scattered throughout the 10 day forecast but no substantial amounts listed. Weather forecast changes day by day and all we can do is hope for the best and continue the snow dances. Still in a waiting game so stay tuned as we keep you up to date with the trail and grooming status.
