Frederic / Gaylord Area Trail Report – Sledheads of Frederic – 12/18
It’s calm and quiet at 28 degrees here in downtown Frederic, still pretty white out there but I would classify riding as fair but on the other hand we have alot more snow then people do elsewhere. Forcast looks like no new snow till maybe next thursday when temps drop and lake effect snow will kick in and that would be perfect timing for the day after Christmas. Only time and the snow chants will tell. One of my favorite videos I did from years ago with the snow chant is right here mo mo nah chee chee nah snow chant
Hopefully we will still hold some of this thru next week……Sled traffic was very light around town yesterday and I would think it will be light this weekend but then there are always those that just have to get out there and thats good for carbide and slide business. Pics below are from out my front door this morning, Thanks for checking in. Pete
WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Still a decent amount of wind out there this morning but not as stiff as yesterday. I only saw about a dozen sleds on friday and I see a few over at the swamp this morning probably having the breakfast buffet. Last nite I went there for a mushroom and swiss burger and they had a band. To bad the place was pretty empty. We had about 1 inch of fluff overnight and I dont expect to see to many people today. I had the loader come last nite to move snow at both my storage lot and my parking lot behind Sledheads. It was so bad yesterday after the thaw I needed that big equipment to make it more tolerable. Pics below are from yesterday at the Swamp. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> Light snow will spread across parts of the area today, most widespread across eastern upper Michigan. Lake effect snows develop tonight, again most persistent in the snow belts north of the Mighty Mac. Gusty south to southwest winds today will result in some patchy blowing and drifting snow. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyLight snow will spread across parts of the area today, most widespread across eastern upper Michigan. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> We lost alot yesterday, made it to about 40 degrees, lots of slush and very dissapointing considering how good it was. Winds are stiff and when this slush hardens up from the cold its gonna make it really rough. So here I sit in Sledheads and it will be a great day for pushing slush and watching t.v. Stop by and say hi if you are in the area. I do still have my rental cottage avaiilable if you want to come and just camp out there for the winter. I wish I had a better report. Thanks for checking in. Pics below are from this morning. Pete #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
