Michigan Trail Report

Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 02/19

Greetings Sledders,

We got 4+ yesterday along with some hefty winds.

Everything was groomed yesterday and into last night and the trails are good to very good. Probably the best that I’ve seen in a number of years.

There was significant drifting in the clear cut and open areas which provides for an opportunity to be amazed at the amount of snow these tractors will simultaneously push and pull and not break a sweat. Instead of relying on the drag to bust up the drifts which can sometimes lead to a mild roller coaster effect, we drop the 10ft wide blade and do some old fashion drift busting. It’s the most fun you can have in these tractors while being fully clothed.

It’s anybody’s guess as to what affect the warm up will have on the trails although traffic will be much lighter than last weekend and that should help a little and there’s a ton of base to eat through before a total breakdown occurs. Let’s hope for the best.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy and The Kids

Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling

In trying to do my part to help out a bit I decided to kick it up yesterday after the first 2 orders for Spikes gift cards came in. I have talked to the owners of 6 of the local bar/restaurants and they are all on board with me offering their gift cards. This will help them now with some cash flow and then down the road when you come north after this whole ordeal is over you can stop in. Rays BBQ, Brews & Blues Spike's Keg O Nails Gray Rock Pub & Grub Bears Den Pizzeria Tinkers Junction
Frederic Inn These are the six places that I have gift cards available for. $25 dollars each and you can paypal me at petekocefas@yahoo.com or use Zelle or call me at 989 344 1800. I will personally mail the gift cards to you using my seemingly never ending amount of 29 cent Elvis stamps from 1993. How I got all of them is a totally different story but anything you can do to help any of these places would be a benefit in these tough times for everyone. Feel free to share this with any of your friends. Thanks, Pete (Not sure how these are getting skewed to the side)

Greetings Sledders,

First and foremost we would like to thank everyone that stayed with us this winter. We do appreciate your business.

I hope that the reports provided you with some useful information during another difficult season to report on given the usual ups and downs in the weather.

I just finished up the totals for grooming this season and I thought I would share them with you.

We are responsible for a total of 69 miles of trail. This year we groomed 4118 miles which took 626 volunteer hours and we used $8342.90 in fuel. That works out to an average of a flame throwing 6.5 mph
and we consumed .93 gpm.

Have a great off season and we hope to see you next year if not sooner, mushrooms are just around the corner.

Be Safe,

Keith, Sandy and The Kids

Greetings Sledders,

Quick update. I wouldn't ordinarily generate a report so closely behind the last one but conditions have changed and I know many of you want to come up this weekend and may be apprehensive based on my last report.

We didn't get anything out of the system that just went through but we are now experiencing the wrap around snow in the form of Lake Effect.

It's difficult to say how much is on the ground already or to say how much we will ultimately receive. Those are an unknown because of the wind and it's anybody's guess when it comes to LE snows.

We do have enough now to upgrade the trail condition slightly to fair. However, beware of the ice base on the Southern half or so of our trails as it is everywhere. The Northern half is for the most part packed snow covered by fresh.

We are scheduled to groom through Saturday night. A warm up starts Sunday and continues all week so grooming efforts may just end for the season Saturday. That's not set in stone but it is a possibility.

The next report will be the final for the season and will be out on Wednesday or so.

Ride Often and Please Be Safe,
Keith, Sandy, and The Kids
