Cheboygan Area Trail Report – 12/01

The storm dropped roughly 8 inches or so across our system and it is still snowing.

The winds have been extremely gusty so the drifting makes it really difficult to tell. There’s also been some damage along the trail so be aware if you’re out.

We will be out tomorrow to do some clean up and hopefully have a tractor out too! ❄️

WEEKEND TRAIL UPDATE: Currently 32 degrees and foggy. Our entire system has been panned except for the first mile from the fairgrounds on Trail 99. It is passable by sled but still too wet for the tractors.

With the warm up today and tomorrow the tractors will be parked. We will reassess when the temps get cool again.

If you ride this weekend PLEASE be careful, it is early season conditions. We want everyone to get home safely!

TRAIL UPDATE: Ladies and gentlemen, the news many of you have been waiting for: We are sending both our tractors out tonight to begin panning the trails!!!! 🚜

OUR ENTIRE SYSTEM WILL BE PANNED BY FRIDAY MORNING.

EARLY SEASON CONDITIONS

PLEASE RIDE WITH EXTREME CAUTION AND GIVE THE TRACTORS PLENTY OF ROOM

UPDATE: trail 99: the first mile out of the fairgrounds will not be panned this week. It is open to sleds but still too wet for our tractor. Besides that section of the trail it will be panned to black mountain.

Thank you groomer driver Mark for laying down some nice white ribbon!!

The lake effect snow guns were definitely on last night with areas reporting more than a foot of fresh. We have a club meeting tonight and we will have a full update after that. ... See MoreSee Less

TRAILS UPDATE: HUGE shout out to our dedicated volunteers. They have been working since Monday morning clearing trees.

Unfortunately, temps and the variation of snow depths we haven't been able to get the tractors out.

This is currently early season conditions, ride with EXTREME caution.

Trail Updates:
Trail 9 Mac City to Cheboygan to Mann Rd. This trail has been cleared of more than 70 downed trees. It does have rideable snow. Gets light in patches in Mac City but it is open.

Trail 720: Cheboygan to Long Pointe Rd: This trail had over 30 trees down and snow gets lighter the further south. There are patches of zero snow due to the wind.

Trail 99: Cheboygan to Black mountain. This is currently not accessible from Cheboygan. The private property you have to ride through is underwater and we are gonna need a few nights of hard freezes to make it solid. We have been told there is riding to be had out at black mountain but it is not advised to go through town to get there.

Wish I had better news but hey I am glad to be giving some report this early in the season. Looking like this weekend is gonna be a wild card with Sunday looking at 39 and rain.

The work the snowmobile club volunteers do benefits all trail users. Much of work they do will help those of us who bike and walk the trails when the snow is gone.

These Trails are a building our Northern Michigan economy : thank you volunteers for your hard work !

Thanks for all your dedication.

Thank you for the update and all that you do!! Much appreciated!
