TASA Update
Dec.15, 2019 9:00am

Waking up in the U.P in the winter is like waking up on Christmas morning, you never know what you are going to get. A couple of inches of fresh light fluffy snow fell last night and the first few days of the coming week will bring more Lake Effect snow. The conditions are good and there were a good amount of riders out this weekend from the Newberry area all the way to Seney. A friendly reminder is slow down and stay to the right especially on the corners. Stay on the trail. Private property owners gives us the privilege to have trails across their property and we do not want to lose it. Normal grooming operations are in full swing.

TASA works mostly with volunteers. We have the best groomers in the U.P. They dedicate long hours and nights away from their families to groom the trails so you can enjoy them safely. Please be cautious as you approach a groomer as there is not much room for them and you so please slow down and once there is room then go around them. It is always appreciated when you can tip your hat to them and thank them for their efforts or give them a wave. Be Safe out there and take time to enjoy nature and the best scenery the U.P has to offer.

The Northstore on Cnty Rd 407 is opening from 9am and closes at 11pm 7 days a week starting this Friday Dec. 6th. Gas, Snacks and general information. No sled rentals are available here until Dec.16th.

The Wolf Inn is open 7 days a week 11am-10pm. Food.

Reminder: The Pine Stump will open Dec. 26th where you can gas up and grab a bite to eat.

Plan accordingly for gas. If you get in a bind you can always run the road County Rd 407 South 5 miles to the Northstore.

Tahquamenon Falls Brewery & Pub is open.

Trail #9/2/473 (Good) (South of Newberry) The trail was groomed and brushed back all the way to Epoufette. There is a water hole close to Rexton that is passable, and should freeze over the next day or so. Trail 473 E over to Trout Lake has not been completed yet.
Trail #45 North of town is open and has been brushed back and groomed all the way to the 500 The bridge north of Camp snort has been replaced. It is a narrow bridge on a corner so please slow down! Trail 45 E after the 500 to the Falls is not passable. They are continuing to work on it as quick and safe as possible. Your patience is appreciated!
Trail #9 North (Good) The gates are open from town going North. The trail is was brushed and groomed all the way to the Pine Stump. 9 to school bus corner where is meets up with Trail 431 W has been brushed and groomed. The Pine Stump to Holland Lake staging area is not complete. Trail 431 up to Trail 9 and Trail 43 was groomed down to 10 curves by Seney. So heading West from Newberry is Good!It has not been extremely cold yet so there are wet areas. The best information I can gather is North around Paradise there are many tress blocking the trails.

Trail 8 over to the crazy 8's are taking shape. Lot of good snow and riding.

There are still areas near Paradise that are a work in progress. They are working hard to get these trails in riding condition. Swamps are not frozen!!

Curfew in the Village of Newberry is 11:00pm to 7:00am.

SEE YOU SOON!!!!!!!!!!

Gene's Tahquamenon General Store

I wanted to comment on this post about the businesses participation. Gene groomed for 13 years until his heart attack almost 4 years ago. He 's doing well there now , but since then have been told he has 3 blown disc & curvature of his spine. So sitting hours in a groomer would not be the easiest. So I hope if something is posted about what businesses haven't stepped up to help, Gene did for many years. So I'm hoping you will still patronize our business this snowmobile season. We have the basic things Gas, Belts, Plugs, and refreshments for the trail riding!!! We are right off the Trail45 at the Lower Falls. Sadly they are not grooming to it this year which I was hoping they could, but don't have enough room to turn around there anymore. ... See MoreSee Less

Hopefully they "hear" you Sherri. You and Gene have been a big support of the trails for as long as you have been UP there. Hopefully they wont publish a "black list" of those not able to help. How ridiculous would that be?

We always stop at your store when we stay in Paradise!

A must stop every time we stay in Paradise. See you in February 😊

thanks for all you have done and we will be stoping by for sure when heading that way

Great people good stop we will continue to stop when in area

Obviously Gene has more than put forth his time, so thank you for all you have done! ❤️
