Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/08

Well it looks like more snow for Saturday night into Sunday. They are calling for 8-10 inches of snow but the good news is the temps will be warmer. What an awesome time to come up and enjoy some of the greatest trails we have had in years. DON’T MISS OUT!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY reports on 3/7/19 grooming is ongoing. If you see a groomer please pull over and let them pass. Overall our trails are excellent!

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is excellent was last groomed 3/7/19. Please do not ride on sidewalks near Holiday and try to keep the noise down in town.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is very good was last groomed 3/6/19. PLEASE REMEBER TO CROSS US HWY 2 IN THE CORRECT LANE OF TRAVEL, DO NOT BLOCK HWY TURN LANES!

Wakefield to Marenisco is excellent was lasted groomed 3/5/19. This trail is a mix of twisty but wide forest roads (13mi) and 12mi of rail bed to Marenisco. This beautiful trail is 12 miles of unplowed wide logging roads that wind their way through the Gogebic Range Hills before running 10 miles of rail-trail to Marenisco. PLEASE STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS ON THE RAIL TRAIL! There is a significant logging presence on FR-8100 with dozens of log trucks hauling out daily. Last week an accident occurred with a log truck. Stop at the stop signs!!

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is excellent and was last groomed 3/5/19. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI) is excellent last groomed 3/7/19. This is their most scenic trail and a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly.

Trail 11S is in excellent condition it was last groomed 3/6/19. It is groomed all the way to the WI line. This 17 mile long trail has 2 stop signs and is a wilderness tour. The southern 3 miles get thinner, but remains in good condition.

Trail 11 N is closed indefinitely.

THE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS Wednesday, March 6th

Wednesday, March 6th

Gogebic Area Groomers have been out hitting all our trails and reporting that they are in great shape. Temps look to increase over the next few days – but nothing to be concerned about given the massive amounts of snow we’ve received. In addition,John Dee says that we may be in for another foot of snow this weekend and possibly even a heavy St. Paddy’s Day Storm.

We’ve got a lot of good riding to be had this March

WATERSMEET U.P. THUNDER RIDERS reports 3/7/19:

Not much more to say…… The trails are EXCELLENT !! Come and ride!

Trail 2 West of Watersmeet – Excellent!

Trail 2 East of Watersmeet- Very good condition

Trail 13 South to Cisco Chain- Excellent

Trail 3 south to Land O’Lakes- Very good condition. There is lots of traffic on this trail and it’s very hard to keep smooth, use caution on bridge approaches

Trail 3 north to Paulding/Bond Falls/Bruce Crossing- Excellent

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RUNNING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN LOSING EASMENT OF THE TRAILS AND ALSO A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.

Gogebic Range Trail Authority - ORV & Snowmobile Club

The rail-trail section from Jackson Road to Country Club Road in Ironwood received some much needed shaping and is PAID FOR BY CLUB FUNDS AS THIS TRAIL IS NOT YET A MDNR ORV TRAIL APPROVED TO RECEIVE ORV TRAIL-PERMIT FUNDING. Dean Pearson construction & logging worked all day reclaiming gravel and doing what he could to reestablish ditches for drainage issues. Please stay off the trail due to on-going work, many large rocks, roots and logs could be on the trail awaiting a final skimming clean up run. We will have up-coming club trash pick up events as well as a signing event. We need more active members! PLEASE join us at our next event and feel how good it is to do something together for a greater good. Sacrifice an afternoon working with new friends instead of riding, it is key to our future trail expansions! #joinus #thisclubbuildstrails #dogoodfeelgood ... See MoreSee Less

Since this is a designated snowmobile trail, not a designated ORV trail, this repair could qualify for ORV damaged trail restoration funds through the MIDNR. Worth checking in to.

Say ya to da UP! Spent a lot of time there, beautiful.

This beautiful.

I really enjoyed Longfellow Country. Cross country skiing is excellent in the county woods. The trails are groomed and you can watch the next generation learning to ski and Nordic jumping. Ironwood is the place to be in winter or fall the colors are gorgeous.

The trails has dried enough from the spring thaw to allow them to open, however spring riding conditions may still exist on many trails. Riders may encounter soft spots on the trail system, according to a post on the department’s Facebook page. In Gogebic County, the trails are open and are generally in good conditions with a few areas with soft spots. Riders are reminded that snowmobile trails are only open to ORV use if they are specifically signed as such.
