Michigan Trail Report

Western U.P. Trail Report – Western U.P. Bureau – 03/07

Our temps are finally starting to warm up some. We will not have the fridge cold this weekend. Temps will be in the low 30’s for highs and teens and 20’s for lows. What an awesome time to come up and enjoy some of the greatest trails we have had in years. DON’T MISS OUT!!!!!

THE GOGEBIC RANGE TRAIL AUTHORITY reports on 3/6/19 grooming is ongoing. If you see a groomer please pull over and let them pass. Overall our trails are excellent!

Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay Crossing is excellent was last groomed 3/6/19. Please do not ride on sidewalks near Holiday and try to keep the noise down in town.

Trail 2 from Ramsay Crossing to Wakefield is very good was last groomed 3/5/19. PLEASE REMEBER TO CROSS US HWY 2 IN THE CORRECT LANE OF TRAVEL, DO NOT BLOCK HWY TURN LANES!

Wakefield to Marenisco is excellent was lasted groomed 3/5/19. This trail is a mix of twisty but wide forest roads (13mi) and 12mi of rail bed to Marenisco. This beautiful trail is 12 miles of unplowed wide logging roads that wind their way through the Gogebic Range Hills before running 10 miles of rail-trail to Marenisco. PLEASE STOP AT ALL STOP SIGNS ON THE RAIL TRAIL! There is a significant logging presence on FR-8100 with dozens of log trucks hauling out daily. Last week an accident occurred with a log truck. Stop at the stop signs!!

Trail 8 from Bingos to Tula Crossing is excellent and was last groomed 3/5/19. Bingo’s is closed and has no gas….

Trail 160 from Walmart to Montreal River (WI) is excellent last groomed 3/2/19. This is their most scenic trail and a treat to ride! Stay on the trail in the farm fields. Over 25 landowners are involved to make this trail a reality, please respect them and ride responsibly.

Trail 11S is in excellent condition it was last groomed 3/1/19. It is groomed all the way to the WI line. This 17 mile long trail has 2 stop signs and is a wilderness tour. The southern 3 miles get thinner, but remains in good condition.

Trail 11 N is closed indefinitely.

THE GOGEBIC AREA GROOMERS Wednesday, March 6th

Wednesday, March 6th

Gogebic Area Groomers have been out hitting all our trails and reporting that they are in great shape. Temps look to increase over the next few days – but nothing to be concerned about given the massive amounts of snow we’ve received. In addition,John Dee says that we may be in for another foot of snow this weekend and possibly even a heavy St. Paddy’s Day Storm.

We’ve got a lot of good riding to be had this March

WATERSMEET U.P. THUNDER RIDERS reports 3/4/19:

Groomer Report
We are grooming daily. Trails are very good condition, lots of snow!!
Trail 2 West of Watersmeet – Excellent!
Trail 2 East of Watersmeet- Very good condition
Trail 13 South to Cisco Chain- Excellent
Trail 3 south to Land O’Lakes- Very good condition. There is lots of traffic on this trail and it’s very hard to keep smooth, use caution on bridge approaches
Trail 3 north to Paulding/Bond Falls/Bruce Crossing- Excellent

PLEASE STAY ON MARKED TRAILS. RUNNING ON UNMARKED TRAILS CAN RESULT IN LOSING EASMENT OF THE TRAILS AND ALSO A POSSIBLE TICKET FOR YOU.

160 water hazards and there are 3 stretches of road to run that will be tough if you can't ride up on the banks. It was cold yesterday and most hazards froze up hard last night. But today they will all break open and really start flowing. Safest rides would be trailering to Wakefield (ski hill reroute road routes are brutal) and riding to Marenisco. The northern end of the trail is gorgeous!!! Ride slowly today conditions will change quickly. Remember Iron county is closed and Vilas County closes tonight at midnight. WHAT A SEASON, THANK YOU GRTA VOLUNTEER GROOMER OPERATORS!! ... See MoreSee Less

If you want to ride this weekend we suggest riding from Ironwood North out trail 160 and back. NOTE Wi trail #3 to Driftwood is closed, no connector back to Hurley. Second suggestion is to unload at the "giant snowman" park and ride in Wakefield riding trail 2 to Marenisco. No grooming occurred since Sunday, but trails remain flat due to light traffic. Pictures are of trail 2 east of Wakefield, there is 1.75mi of plowed trail due to logging. Either side of that section is rated good to very good. We are heading out grooming this afternoon!! Be aware for rapidly changing conditions and water hazards. Ride slow!!! This hazards come up quick!! The pics from our club member said they took trail 1 north and trail 8 back west to their unload spot saying "all was good." ... See MoreSee Less

Our President took this video this morning out his back door...Quite the tease, eh? Tons of snow in the woods yet, trails have water hazards here and there, they are WHITE and we hope to do some grooming before the weekend. Everything was hit Sunday and with low midweek traffic trails are flat! Ride cautiously, ride right & ride sober! ... See MoreSee Less

Just speed I think alcohol had alot to do with it also!!!!

Very interesting

Its not speed, Its the irresponsible people operating the snowmobile. Thats the factor.

It's the mindset more than anything else.
