Grayling Trail Report – Fay’s Motel – 02/22

Greetings Sledders,

We have a better idea as to what to expect weather wise this weekend. It looks like scattered rain and freezing rain will start late in the afternoon Saturday and change over to snow sometime during the night. Snow totals don’t look to be great but the wind is supposed to be on blast Sunday.

Hopefully the rain will be limited and won’t be enough to take the trails back to the ice age again. We have no way of knowing and will have to wait and see.

We have focused on bringing all the reserve snow on the side of the trails into the center in anticipation of this and it’s my hope that it all shakes out in our favor. After all we are due for Mother Nature to cut us a break.

Grooming is on schedule and the trails are currently very good.

Greetings Sledders,

The menacing storm threat forecast for last weekend turned out to be a mild mannered snow squall although it did give us enough snow to make up for Friday's little heat tantrum and we ended up with good trails once we started grooming Saturday night.

Everyone that we talked to over the weekend indicated that they had good rides and the guys that are here now are reporting great rides.

I groomed the southern trail segment yesterday and I was satisfied with the end product. It could use some snow here and there which is always the case with that area. The rest of the drivers are telling me that they are happy with their efforts on the other segments.

We are expecting snow on Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday this week and that's all I've got to say about that on account of that whole broadcaster's jinx deal.

We will be grooming on a full schedule and will do our best to keep up this holiday weekend but as we all know the groomers are greatly out numbered and at a distinct disadvantage.

Next report around Thursday depending on my grooming schedule.

Greetings Sledders,

In the last report I committed to a report that was to come out on Friday. There's no reason to wait. The weather sources that we rely on all seem to be in agreement that something good is about to unfold in terms of snowfall over the next few days.

Temps today and tomorrow still look to be above the freezing mark. However, abundant cloud cover and light and variable winds will hopefully keep any trail damage to a minimum.

Then comes Saturday. Snow is forecast to start falling in the early morning hours with a general 1-3" expected followed by a brief lull in the action and snows will pick up again during the early afternoon hours with 5-8" of additional system snow. Hopefully my writing about this won't cast the proverbial broadcaster's jinx and it will actually happen.

Thought you might like some details because driving Saturday afternoon may become a little dicey.

Trails were groomed yesterday and continue to be fair to good. The fair part is due to the limited areas where grooming sins are evident which translates into a touch of snirt. Again these areas are limited but I feel that they must be called out as fair, aside from that we were pulling decent amounts of snow.

This appears to be a very nice weather set-up and should offer some great system snow riding. Your challenge may be getting here and our challenge as groomer drivers may be keeping guys in the seat and paving this in as it falls. Good challenges to have.
