Cheboygan Area Trail Report – 02/11

Another great weekend of snowmobiling here in Cheboygan. Trails were busy. We would like to thank all our volunteers who helped groom the busy trails this weekend. They are calling for significant snowfall with Tuesday’s system. Trails are being groomed daily and continue to be in great shape.

We heard news of multiple crashes this weekend in the UP with deaths. We can’t stress enough how icy the base is under the snow. Please ride safe and be extra cautious. Remember to always "RIDE YOUR OWN RIDE." Your friends and family want you to come home safe.

❄️❄️SUNDAY AM UPDATE & FRIENDLY REMINDER: Temperatures were around 0 last night which really helped the trails setup with the groom. Trails are looking hard and flat this morning and we’ve already heard many of you out there enjoying them.
❄️❄️Both tracks on the Kubota needed to be changed due to broken lugs. 6 volunteers (3 of them who spent their Saturday night/Sunday morning grooming and 1 of the 3 hadn’t even gone to bed yet) spent Sunday morning away from their family to help install new tracks. 5 of the 6 have jobs they will be going to tomorrow and will spend one or 2 nights this week with little to no sleep because they are on a groomer.
❄️❄️This is what dedication and volunteering is all about. We all do it for the love of the sport and for you to enjoy the trails. Presidents weekend is one of the busiest of the season. As riders you should expect high traffics and high volume in small areas. A large section of our trail system is part of one of the most popular loops in the Northern Lower. The trails were not neglected this weekend and were being groomed as quickly and safely as possible. Our groomer operators have a ton of experience and haven’t seen traffic like this in a long time. We’re happy you’re here and enjoying the snow.

Just drove trail 99 to the bluffs it was in excellent shape guys thank you for all your hard work !

Great job guys, hope you all get rest and sometimes FAMILIES ARE FIRST

Thank you!!!!

Do you not use a front push blade? Could be one reason you aren’t getting rid of the ice bumps. Just an idea. Thanks to the volunteers!!

Awesome job guys thanks for your efforts

Trai;s were amazing Sunday morning, so appreciated. How can we make a donation for the group and equipment?

We were up this past weekend. You guys do a great job all the time.

Cheboygan is a great trail system that doesnt get as much traffic as gaylord or the UP and you guys do a great job!

Did the Indian river, Alanson, Mackinaw loop yesterday and for as busy as it was the trails were in great shape thanks to the groomers hard work!! We appreciate you and all your hard work!

Awe!! This is so.....awesome!! You are all so amazing & I personally can't thank you and your family's enough for all you do!! For my love of this sport!!

Best groomers in the state

What address to mail donations? Snail mail or electronic?

Thank you for your hard work !

Thank you for all your dedication! The trails were great! We truly appreciate it!

Had a lot of snowmobiles in last night who said the trail between Cheboygan and Mackinaw City is garbage. Some said it looked like it hadn't been groomed in weeks. Ruts everywhere. Said it looked like side by sides and 4 wheelers had been ripping it up. Just passing on info.

Thanks to all

Awesome nice to see good people like you great men

We know the trails are rough. This is the heaviest traffic we’ve seen in a long time. With that being said...the trails are having a hard time setting up because theres sleds coming right behind the groomer. We are trying our best to get them flat and to keep everyone safe but we can’t be everywhere at the same time. Here is an example what we are up against. ... See MoreSee Less

For all the people complaining about the trails. You should sell your sleds and take up knitting. It's an aggressive sport that has unpredictable circumstances. The best thing you can do is go ride somewhere else. The groomers, hats off by the way for your volunteer services, are doing their best they can. Appreciate all you do and this guy won't be complaining about the trails because im happy that we have one of the best trail systems in the country and sometimes it's bumpy and sometimes its flat and I'm ok with that.

I live in Indian River on a high bank of the Sturgeon River, so I see and hear Trail 7 ( North Central rail) all day. It’s literally a super high way on the weekends, the groomer goes by twice a day. I’ve counted 35 sleds behind the groomer before. I was out on trail 76 and a groomers drag slid off into the trees because a snowmobile wouldn’t move over. Another groomer was on the way to pull him out. So due to someone’s inconsiderate behavior, two groomers were tied up for hours and no trails were groomed.

Or maybe ride the trail system where you live? Oh! You don't have any snow?

I wonder if it’s the way people are riding that is causing it. To me it seems even in the middle of the week when there wasn’t much traffic that by noon the trails would look like a wash board

We r face if the same thing in central Wisconsin as well. To much at once..... iv been grooming the last three days n just ant making much head way. Good luck!

Thank you for all that you do for our community! For anyone that loves to sled like my family please consider donating to your trail system. These are volunteers who could be spending their time elsewhere and they should be appreciated! Great trails create great business!

When you have that much traffic it’s inevitable that the trails are gonna get tough. My hats off to the clubs for doing what you guys and gals do. Just imagine how rough they would be without them.

Hopefully the bumps keep all the whiners away.

My opinion on this is season Coming to an end you'll better quit your whining and ride

Thanks for all your dedication to keeping up on the trails. I look just as forward to riding them as I do hearing about my Dads time grooming. Now if I could only get him on a snowmobile again! ❄️

Thank you for all your efforts to get these trails in better condition!!

We've been coming up here riding for the past ten years and have been bringing the wives and kids the past few president day weekends and have never seen the trails in as bad as shape as they were today. Every group we talked to was miserable. Even the locals we spoke to were not having a good time. I'm not busting chops here , we know the groomers are volunteer and they're doing what they can just stating the facts that we've never seen the trails hit this hard with more traffic.

Sure you are run 24/7 and get more groomers out grooming and less coffee breaks

You guys are doing a great job, especially since most of u are volunteers with actual jobs. If people expect a super smooth surface maybe they should stick to the cars. Snowmobiling is the winter equivalent to off roading.

this is the most snow we've had in years. people are taking advantage. alot more traffick than usual. which is good. ya the trails are taking a beating. But that's part of riding....

We were there last weekend and trail were WONDERFUL, you all do a fantastic job!!!

whats the issue? the rough stuff looks more fun.

Great work with high traffic

Nice job. Boys trails look great, lots of traffic, weekend warriors

I am just happy we got snow. Thanks for trying to keep people happy

Thanks for the hard work, that’s crazy! Glad I rode midweek.

It was great riding up here in Paradise. 😁

Don't beat yourself up we still love ya can only do what you can do

Where you grooming tonight thank you for your hard wok

It's nice you have snow to work with.

UPDATE TO WEEKEND UPDATE: Received another 6 inches last night. Trails are in excellent condition. We are still dealing with strong winds and drifting on our Mullett Lake trails (9 and 720) so be extra careful. Groomers are running daily. Expecting heavy traffic this weekend, please ride safe and be patient. ... See MoreSee Less

President's Day Weekend Update: I figure I would just post this now and not wait till Friday. We received over a foot of fresh snow since Yesterday morning. Groomer Jim was out on the Mullett Lake trails this morning getting the drifts knocked down. This weekend will be one of the best in years.
