Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 02/08

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports –

W❄️W! Just wow! I personally ride Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula every week and this definitely goes down as one of the top 5 days of riding ever!!

Off trail is deep and trails are mint!

There is currently quite a bit of drifting going on in some of the more open areas so if you are out riding please be aware.

I hope you all are able to take advantage of these amazing conditions soon! If you are UP riding, please share your photos!

<>

Conditions as of February 7, 2019

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are in good to very good condition. The groomers are out, so please watch for them. They have the right of way.

Trail 120 and 121 that goes around Freda is closed for the season and will not be reopened, as well as Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden. You can still get to Dollar Bay by way of Hancock and to Lake Linden by way of Calumet. Trail 133 is closed for the season for logging.

Please stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for rider’s safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.

Snowfall & Weather:

Snowfall in the Keweenaw Peninsula: 16 inches of new snow with 49 inches of snow on the ground, 188 inches have fallen to date as of 2/7/2019.

Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula

Covered Drive Road on the way to Freda, Michigan. This road is serene & refreshing in the spring & summer, bursting with color during fall, and feels like you're entering Narnia in winter.

It is called Covered Drive Road.

I miss this place.....

Naive question: is this the same Rd just west of Houghton? I'm not from the U.P. but my husband's father was, we vacation there quite often. My fondest memory from covered Rd was when my husband ( just dating at the time) maybe 14 years ago asked me to to be his one and only...girlfriend, very romantic!

My great uncle was from Freda.

Most of it is on an old railroad grade. That's why it is fairly level with gentle curves. My father always referred to it as the Green Road.

Many trips taken down that road...

Rebecca, look familiar?

I’m curious to know if the side by sides and 4 wheelers have exhaust issues as well or is it just sleds that are the focal point ?

If aftermarket cans are a problem. The law should be enforced.

Cans are becoming a Huge problem here in central Wisconsin

Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula

I can't get over how beautiful this place is. ♥️

A great way to explore the Copper Country is by mountain bike. Bikes can get you places that are impossible to reach by car. Not into biking but still want to see the amazing views? No problem! Getting out and hiking is another great way to experience the beauty of the Keweenaw.

Upcoming event:
Copper Harbor Trails Fest
The annual Bell's Beer Copper Harbor Trails Fest takes place August 31st - September 1st, 2019 in Copper Harbor, MI.

We have plenty of trails, for all skill-levels and ages.
