Ontonagon Trail Report – 02/07

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP –

Trail Update – Hooray, we have all 3 groomers back with plows! Unfortunately, due to white out conditions, we will not be grooming tonight. 10" so far, and still dumping snow. It is fluffy and blowing into drifts. If you are out riding, please increase follow distances and ride with caution.

Trail Update - The Pisten Bully was down for repair last night, and we lost another of our volunteer groomer operators for health reasons. We do not currently have enough operators to do every trail every day. Last night we groomed Trail 1 from White Pine to Lake of the Clouds and Trail 12 from White Pine to the junction with Trail 101. We also groomed part of Trail 13 and Trail 137. ... See MoreSee Less

Jenny, lookin good

Be there in the morning

That’s safe...snowmobile right at the edge...also illegal to take them past the parking lot

Woods are near impossible, stay on trails or you'll be digging all day.

Yep, the snow is deep the guardrail that keeps you from going over is under the snow. LOL

pic from yesterday morning I was one of the 1st riders up there ...

Looks like the place to visit this winter

Hey, riders- Mama SledHead here - Winter is prime logging season in the Northwoods. Actually, much of our trail system runs across paper company land that they are kind enough to share with us. Unfortunately, we have a whole section of trail closed in The Keeweenaw right now because of logging.

These trails are closed for multiple reasons: Safety - see the post below. It is for the safety of the snowmobilers and also the loggers. Confrontations - We have had multiple instances of snowmobilers disrespecting logging truck drivers even arguing with them and almost coming to blows.

When you see signs that say "logging trucks on road" or "logging in this area" - please slow down and be respectful. Just because you are out in the middle of nowhere, doesn't mean you don't need to come to full stop at that Stop Sign! These guys are just out there making a living and we are lucky to even have access to these areas. Let's start working WITH the paper companies and the loggers and give them reasons to leave these trails open rather than forcing them to shut them down. This is what happens when a sled with 23 miles on it meets a log truck ! Thank god he walked a way with just a broken collarbone

I bet a yamaha would have flattened that logging truck!

Play Stupid games....Win stupid prizes!

Some snowmobilers are going off groomed trails and on peoples land and with all this snow they have NO idea what is under it!

Thank God he's ok but its time for people to pay attention or else they gonna get us shut down or a lot of regulations

Won't be long and all the trails will be closed!

Looks like a lack of common sense. Respect or your going to lose your privilege to use the trails !
