Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 01/10

KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western & Southern UP Trail Reports – Thursday January 10th and we received 12+ inches in the last 36 hours at my home in Toivola…

<>

This is the Keweenaw Snowmobile Trail System Report for Thursday, January 10, 2019.

Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are open and in good condition. The trails are improving with each snowfall. The groomers are out, so please watch for them. They have the right away.

Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there are still some thinner spots close to Lake Superior.

Trail 120 and 121 that goes around Freda is closed for the season and will not be reopened, as well as Trail 3 from Dollar Bay to Lake Linden. You can still get to Dollar Bay by way of Hancock and to Lake Linden by way of Calumet. Trail 133 is temporarily closed for logging.

Please stay on the trails, STAY OFF THE ICE, respect private property, do not drink and drive, and above all else, drive safely. The signs on the trails are there for riderโ€™s safety so please DO NOT remove or destroy them.

Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula

๐Ÿ˜ŽPicture this: you're ripping down The Flow, one of the first trails built in this style literally anywhere. It's early 2019 and the trail has been beat up by thousands of riders over nearly a decade of use. An eroded, boulder-strewn berm lies just ahead through the undergrowth. You test your brakes. The berm comes into view... and you effortlessly shoot through the corner into the next fiery straightaway. Berm after berm... all perfect. You rejoice: The Flow has been returned to its former glory. Rock Solid Trail Contracting, LLC. expects to wrap up construction this week. Ride on. ๐Ÿค˜๐Ÿšตโ€โ™€๏ธ ... See MoreSee Less

Michigan's Keweenaw Peninsula

World-Record Holding Copper Slab

The A. E. Seaman Mineral Museum located in Houghton, Michigan has the largest public display of minerals from the Great Lakes region and is the official Mineral Museum of Michigan. The world's best collection of Michigan minerals from around the world are part of its collection and exhibits. The University of Michigan mineral collection is held by the museum under the Michigan Mineral Alliance. And, the world-record holding 19-ton copper specimen is on exhibit in the front Copper Pavilion.

Here is a photo of the copper slab, discovered by divers off the shores of the Keweenaw Peninsula, Great Sand Bay, being lifted from Superior by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers barge. (diver Bob Barron)

Check it out at the A.E. Seaman Mineral Museum.

I thought the record holder was the 28.2 Ton slab pulled from a couple land owners property up there? collectorsedge.com/blogs/news/collectors-edge-minerals-purchases-the-worlds-largest-float-copper-...

Went to museum yesterday. It was worth the visit.

Megan Winn wanna go?

Beautiful picture!

Awesome! How much would that be worth in todays copper prices?

I remember when this was found and the people who found it. You would of never thought it was copper from the underwater video.

This museum is worth a visit. We never miss the opportunity to return when we visit the Copper Country.

Is the the float copper that was on a flat bed trailer in Sidnaw and for sale back in 1978?

Megan Winn wanna go?

We might be seeing Bob in a few weeks!๐Ÿ‘โค๏ธ

Great place to visit.

Amazing photo

Krupps Resort

Hi everyone ๐Ÿ™‚ Just to clear some thing up for I have been receiving phone calls & messages about this. I bought Krupp's Resort From Richard Krupp in February of last year. Richard & Sandy had sold the Krupp's Mini-mart 16 years ago (I believe it is now) - I am not a daughter or family member of the Krupp's. I bought the Resort in February not the mini-mart, I can not transfer calls to the mini mart nor give you selling details about the mini-mart. We have different phone numbers. I can tell you Jim and Deb are so awesome and so very kind. So no the Resort is not for sale, the Mini-Mart is for sale and is looking for someone to continue on making the yummy pasties! Thank you and hope you all have a good day ๐Ÿ™‚ โ›„๐ŸŒป ... See MoreSee Less
