GROOMING OFFICIALLY SHUT DOWN:
Well we have an official response given to MSA and DNR Field Contacts posted below. With that, trails 7 and 8 are in great shape here for post grooming season riding. Though no longer being groomed, there is a hard flat base with new snow on top and more forecast for great riding. Get out and enjoy the riding while you still can.

From the MIDNR:
"Subject: 2018 Snowmobile Season.
This issue comes up each year when we have a late snow…. No one has given permission to extend grooming. The use of private lands for snowmobile trails expired March 31st.
Reasons include:
Permission from Private land owners has not been gathered or even discussed
What type or amount of use will this produce during the week
ORV conflicts as this season has started
No notification of Law enforcement officials
Saying this, trails on state land continue to be open to snowmobile use as conditions warrant."

High temperatures are expected in the 50's throughout this weekend. The warmest conditions will be at inland locations away from the shores of the Great Lakes. Mostly sunny to clear skies are expected under high pressure. At the request of the National Park Service, the Coast Guard will break out the west end of the Keweenaw Waterway, April 23. The Park Service plans to launch the RANGER III later in the week. The U.S. Coast Guard Cutter ALDER will approach from the west and then establish a track in the ice under Houghton-Hancock Bridge. The icebreaker will not transit Portage Lake and the east end of the Keweenaw Waterway. Alder will leave by the same track she arrived to avoid disrupting stable shore fast ice.

All recreational users of the Keweenaw Waterway should plan their activities carefully, and use caution near the ice.

Making the best out of a tough situation in the Keweenaw. The good news is no snow is expected over the next 10 days. Sunshine and daytime temperatures in the 50s and even some 60s will provide our first real taste of spring into early next week.Mother Nature didn't want to cooperate so we held our first annual Calumet boys track snow meet! It was a blast, but let’s hope it’s our last!! ... See MoreSee Less

It’s 20 degrees in Negaunee right now. Ice is being made on inland lakes overnight,,any idea when we’ll be above freezing temps overnight as well?
