Michigan Trail Report

Traverse City Trail Report – Blue Sky Snowmobile Rentals – 02/15

Wow, what can I say. Trails are in rough shape. We have dirt and standing water all over the trails. Yes it is supposed to get cold this weekend. The trails will be very thin and icy.

We decided to shut down tomorrow and Saturday’s rental operations. We feel the trails will be mainly ice covered and not safe until we get enough snow to groom again. The main hubs into Peegeos and Ranch Rudolph are down to dirt and the powelines on trail 5 are hit and miss with dirt, mud and snow mix. Most of the road crossings are thin and the 2 tracks and seasonal roads will be rutted up with truck traffic.

This winter has been a very frustrating winter for snowmobilers in northern Michigan. All we can hope for is some good snow soon! Hopefully we get a little snow this weekend to help keep the ice to a minimum. If you do need to ride please be safe and responsible. We know it’s a short season but safety should be a priority. I am sorry to all those we couldn’t accommodate this weekend and hope to see you again soon!

Trails are in great shape. This was one of the busiest weekends I can remember in a long time. We had riders from all over come through Peegeos for the GTASC fun run. Obviously people were long overdue and ready to ride. With the lack of snow in the beginning of the season the last 2-3 weeks have been good. We have a great base and everyone that has been out says it’s really really good! Some areas had a little ice in the corners after the busy Saturday but yesterday the groomers were out again it is awesome out there. We have a couple of rental sleds left for the weekend so give us a call and come on up and ride before the season ends! 231-633-2583 ... See MoreSee Less

More snow on the way! Gonna be a great weekend to ride! Finally we will have the trails back in good shape for snowmobiling, assuming this forecast holds true. Even when the trails are good and groomed, there is still a possibility for Icy corners and other things to watch out for. There were more fatalities this last weekend and likely most could have been avoided by using common sense.. Go only as fast as you feel comfortable. Slow down going into corners. Stay in your Lane always. And Stop signs mean Stop! Have a great ride this week and weekend and hopefully we can hold on to good riding for another month or so! ... See MoreSee Less

Rain yesterday led to a good amount of snow overnight. They are sending out all the groomers tonight! We hope to see the trails in good shape for the remainder of the weekend. If the trails groom well they’ll be able to pack this fresh snow and fill in some of the low areas where the ice formed from standing water. We hope to be up and running again tomorrow. There will be some spots that will still be a little icy and slick. We also noticed while riding the last couple days some idiot decided to run his truck down the power lines off supply road. If your out today be aware of this area as it is rutted (the groomer will flatten this back out). I know it’s been a reoccurring theme but use caution out there as it has not been ideal for perfect conditions this season. I’ll update again as soon as I can. As for now we are getting some snow and the temps are going to stay cold again for a while. ... See MoreSee Less

Trails have gone from Great on the weekend to poor today. We were really hoping the 2-3 inches would give us enough to mask the ice and make it safe to ride. We do have a solid base, unfortunately it is very icy throughout the trail. At this point we are not sending out any rental units until the trails are groomed and improve. If you decide to come up and ride please be careful. The trails were groomed Saturday night and are flat, but it is very icy out there. Wish I had better news- ... See MoreSee Less
