Ironwood Trail Report – 01/11

IRONWOOD / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via Gogebic Range Trail Authority – ORV & Snowmobile Club – We’ve seen the forecast shift the highest snow totals slightly east of us, but still calling for 8-12" plus lake effect.

We are actively grooming, please ride cautiously as our groomers are not that agile and cannot make evasive maneuvers to dodge you, as surprising as that may be.

We’re waiting for the heavy snow to turn on this afternoon, but we were lucky Heikki Lunta spared us the heavy rains. We did see some rain/freezing rain, but nothing crazy. Watch the radar and we’ll get some pics up tonight! Join the club! $25.

We had a good groomer operator kick off meeting last night, pictured is trail 2 off Curry Street in Ironwood. The trail is in good to excellent condition, corners are just starting to get icy, but they are covered again after tonight's groom. Trail conditions remain fair, but that will quickly change this week we feel. Some sections poor some excellent and water hazards still exist. We need more snow, but for what we have trails are not bad for 12/10. Condition for this weekend will be determined by traffic this week. Thank you groomer operators! This will be the third season we run an all volunteer operator crew and we are very blessed to do so as that funds so much of our operation! ... See MoreSee Less

Whatever that trail is on the North end of 64, north of gogebic, heading north. There are hidden railroad tracks that run east and west. There are no railroad ties or shot Rock to bring the area surrounding them up to grade. And of course there was no sign warning the rider of the existing railroad tracks. Early-season conditions, people look out !! Just giving people a heads up..

Please be aware, the RR tracks near M28 8mi east of Wakefield on Trail 8 have been exposed due to traffic. Water holes are opening up on Gogebic Area Grooming groomed portion of Trail 8. We expect many of our water holes have opened up system wide due to a high volume of riders. We will be out tonight to do what we can with the snow that is left. It's 26 degrees and Sunny, not good for trails. A low of 13 will help them set up for tomorrow.

Picture is GRTA club member Tim, he wants to thank all those that stopped to help!

Looks like some great early season riding. 🙄🤦🏻‍♂️

“We often want it so badly that we ruin it before it begins. Just let it naturally evolve. Everything comes to us in the right moment, let’s be patient...”

We helped pull him out.

Some nice white snow just to the right 🤔

🤦‍♂️ why would u go slow! Pitch it and go

That's a 600 ACE grand touring and it doesn't wheelie well

“Hey bro, i got yur new sled stuck in the mud after i left the bar”.. LMAO

When in doubt!

At least he’s still smiling and being a good sport about it. I’d be so pissed

Not quite riding season if your sled is under water!

And the reason I wait

Would expect that from a Yamaha but a Doo????

I suppose I will remain patient

Trails shaped up good tonight...and through this morning. Trail 2 from Hurley to Ramsay has been groomed. Trail 2 and 8 we're rolled and packed over the last two days. With a temp of 5 degrees at 445am coming into Bessemer the trails firmed up incredibly well. The rail bed groomed tonight is in good to excellent condition. Trail 160 is OPEN but has not seen a groomer. Stay on the trail, we have 25 landowners and this is the first weekend of riding, don't ruin it. Trail 2 and 8 from Bessemer are rated fair to good, with a few poor spots through the ski hills. The running water just eats snow. Ride easy tomorrow, trail conditions can change quickly as it is very early in the season!! #thankyousponsors #jointheclub www.gogebicrangeta.org ... See MoreSee Less

I put 265 miles on in this area yesterday, rode from mercer to watersmeet, its deffinately worth the trip up people, the clubs have done an amazing job and i cant thank them enough!!

As he said stay on the trail. I have been trying to flatten 160 and already people are going off the trail in the fields. Yes it is fun and hard not to hit the fresh powder but the outcome can be no trail to ride at all!!
