Gaylord Area Trail Report – VisitGaylord.com – 12/25
Heavy lake effect snow will develop in northwest flow favored areas as the coldest air of the winter so far surges into the Great Lakes. Areas of blowing snow, slick travel and low visibility will create hazardous driving conditions in some areas – especially from I-75 westward. – US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan
FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – Dear Santa, It’s Pete from downtown Frederic, I only have two wishes for Christmas. One is to bring us a lot of snow and second is to make sure everyone rides safely. The weatherman said we were supposed to have snow the past couple of days and we haven’t seen hardly anything yet but I know you can change that for us. Santa, remember the big snow storm of 1967 in Kalamazoo and how deep it was? I would love to see that again in Northern Michigan. I am sure that there are many other winter loving snowmobilers with the same wish. Thank you Pete
Only a few new flakes of snow fell yesterday afternoon. Sled traffic was light but they were buzzing around town here. Time will tell on what comes next. Trail crossing looked white as I passed them this morning but I know there is still basically only a light covering. Thank goodness for the cold. Pics below are from Saturday. Thanks for checking in. Pete

Thunderstorms are also possible this afternoon. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyAdditional icing across the area appears less likely today with only a glaze of ice possible for some areas. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. This could lead to dangerous conditions for those without power or a safe source of heat. Looking ahead, it will be quieter Tuesday before another system brings the potential for another active wintry system for midweek. #miweather #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyA cold night is on tap as temps fall into the teens and perhaps single digits across much of northern Michigan, especially in areas heavily impacted by the recent ice storm. Does anyone have any information that would explain why Antrim County was excluded from the the governor’s State of Emergency? Are there any numbers showing ice accumulation for Antrim as compared to surrounding areas?
WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> From Billy Miller in Gaylord. Absolutely wild how trees bend to the ground under the immense weight of the ice. Did you know a 30ft diameter tree can weight up to 7,000 extra lbs with that amount of ice on it? Crazy. More frequent posting angers the Facebook algorithm. We can fight back by having you like or react to this post even if you don't actually "like" the content. (who does in this case, right?) But, it helps Facebook put the information out there in more news feeds. Heart, like, sad, anger reactions all work. Thanks! #miweather #gaylord... See MoreSee Less
GAYLORD AREA WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> #miweather #gaylordFrom Janeen Wardie in Gaylord. This is her neighborhood.
Do not go outside unless you're in the open. The risk of loss of life from falling trees is high.
