Munising Area Trail Report – 12/16
MUNISING AREA UPDATE 12/16 via Alger County SORVA – Still only able to do trail preparation. Today trail 419 from Wetmore to 3 miles West of Munising was packed in including the infamous frog hollow swamp. Though we got more snow it’s barely enough to fill in the big holes. Snow cover varies so use caution when riding. The snow is very soft and many riders were seen getting stuck or tipping their sleds if they ventured off the packed trails…. 12" Really coming down here again this morning! – Terrace Motel – 12/15 (See photos below) Alger County SORVA – 12/14 Trail preparation is progressing and the trails are coming out nice. Big issue right now is the ground still not frozen. It’s making for time consuming work while panning as the wet snow snow is sticking to everything. It’s been in the low teens so lets hope these packed trails start to freeze in. Still estimating a week out before trails are good – provided more snow comes. Stay tuned for detailed updates. Uncertainty still remains where this snowband will park, however, heavy snowfall rates will likely create difficult travel along US-41 from Delta to Marquette/Alger counties. Tonight, widespread snow transitions to lake effect snow for the north wind snowbelts. WEATHER UPDATE via Pictured Rocks Marine Weather Conditions >> Here's the updated 24-hour snowfall forecast through 7am Sunday (top figure) compared to the same forecast from two days ago (bottom figure). No big changes for the UP, although a bit more snow is now forecast for the Keweenaw and central UP. Then, light to moderate snow spreads across the UP early Saturday morning through the afternoon, with lingering lake effect snow in the north wind snow belts Saturday night. Lake effect winds down Sunday.
