Keweenaw Peninsula Trail Report – 12/12
As of 12/12/17, the Keweenaw Peninsula has 17 inches of snow on the ground and has received a total of 72 inches of snow for the season. Snowmobile trails from Twin Lakes to Copper Harbor are officially open but are in early season condition. Some groomers are out opening trails and clearing hazards. More snow is needed. Any trail usage should be done with extreme caution as there is low snow cover, rocks, branches, wet areas and hazards that have not been identified. The Portage lift Bridge will not be open for snowmobile traffic before December 16th. We will post when it is open. Trail 124, 132W and 133 are temporarily closed for logging. Superior Snowmobile Club >> As our snowmobile season comes to a close, and our grooming comes to an end, we wish to thank our club officers, our groomers, all of the businesses that have supported us, and those riders that came to enjoy our trails and supported our community. It takes dedication, passion and a lot of hours to make each season a success. WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> Expect mostly dry weather today through Monday as a cold front exits the U.P. this morning. A few light snow showers will be possible in the higher terrain of the western half through tonight, with minimal accumulations less than an inch. Most locations will struggle to get above freezing today, with the exception of areas near Lake Michigan. KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Krupps Resort >> So we got an 1” of snow with more snow coming starting Tuesday till Thursday! Night time temps are still staying below freezing and days looks like it 30s ❄️ The parking lots/plowed areas around here are melting down so where ever you can find snow feel free to park your sled! Here is a update from Tim & Robin who has been here for the last few days (come up throughout the winter) ❄️ North of Houghton yesterday the trails were groomed and in good shape. Thursday we rode north it was beautiful, South of Sidnaw they do get a little more rough. Iron River is where the line is drawn really bad. They are rideable but if they haven’t groomed they’re will be mogal. Some water holes and open dirt on most trails also. But you can hit a really good 10 to 20 miles without dirt or water. ❄️ Thank you for the update!!
