HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club >> 03/08 If you want to get out and do some late season riding, now is the time. Trail conditions are not ideal, water holes starting to develop & anywhere that the trail runs along the road is not good but there’s plenty of snow left in the woods & overall the trails are still flat. Temperatures are supposed to drop off mid-week with some possible snow on the way. That will make the trails rock solid & icy! As of right now we have no plans to get the groomers back out unless Mother Nature throws us a curve ball. <> <> <> WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Gaylord Michigan >> A mix of snow, sleet, freezing rain, and rain is expected across northern Michigan late Tuesday through Wednesday. Additional showers and embedded thunderstorms are expected tonight into early Saturday. Some of these storms may be strong with locally damaging wind gusts and large hail. Snow is likely today, March 7th, 2026 on the backside of the low pressure system moving through, while parts of southern Michigan reach the mid-60s today. Most of the snow will fall along the spine of the western Upper Peninsula, where 2-5" of fresh snow is possible in the cornflower blue coloring. 1-3" of snow also possible in nearby Baraga and western Marquette county. A trace to 1" is possible for all areas in white, but most of these areas won't see more than a couple flurries mixed in with light freezing drizzle. Snow should be done by 10 pm EST across the Upper Peninsula.
The rest of the state will be dealing with temperatures in the 40s to 60s with showers and thunderstorms, clearing by late evening. This will set the stage for a mostly sunny Sunday ahead. As of yesterday morning, the trails were holding up fairly well despite the warm weather throughout the week. The grade in front of the airport was beginning to show some bare spots, along with sections of the Alanson trail where the logging operation took place.
Rain started early yesterday afternoon and is expected to continue for a few more hours, which unfortunately won’t help trail conditions. Once the rain stops, we will try to get out this afternoon to check conditions and provide another update.
