Gaylord Bureau –

February 23, 2026

10:15 a.m.

We had a warm up and some rain last week, but the temperature dropped back down and the groomers were able to get out. Trail 7 South to Frederic and Lakes of the North are both in good shape. Johannesburg is in fair shape. Expect to run into some wet patches, especially as you head north near Perry Road. Enjoy winter before it’s too late and get some extra miles in!

Please note, due to last April’s ice storm, there are logging operations in some locations. Logging is taking place on the intersection of trails 7 & 4 (Waters) toward Dodge Lake and near Turtle Lake Road (East of Gaylord). The logging trucks may use the trail as a road at times. Proceed with caution in these areas. Trails are still passable and the groomers are doing their best to keep the trails smooth in these areas.

Check out a live view of trail # 7 here.

A few things to remember about our groomers and trails:

– Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way.
– Please move off the trail when groomers are approaching and allow them to safely pass.
– If you approach a groomer from behind, kindly wait for the operator to signal you to pass.
– Grooming can take place at any time during the day or night, so stay alert.
– Always ride on the right side of the trail.
– Ride safe and ride sober.

Sledheads of Frederic – 02/23

Monday morning in downtown Frederic, light snow in the air and about 18 degrees out there. Predictions for this upcoming week are not anything to get to excited about. Looks like we may get a little snow but it is still all white out there. It was very slow around town on sunday. Who knows we may get a nice storm for a surprise. Lets see what the next few days bring. thanks for checking in. Pete

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Not much change since yesterday's first call snowfall outlook for snow primarily across northern and central Michigan incoming for February 24th & 25th. Much of the snow during this time frame will fall starting after 9 am Tuesday, and finish up by 9 am Wednesday, with light lake effect snow or freezing drizzle mixing in. Totals south of US-10 will generally be lower due to warmer temperatures at the surface. We did shift around the Upper Peninsula 4-8" snowfall forecasts to account for some lake enhancement within the system, coupled with lift from the hilly terrain. Same story for around Gaylord where totals may exceed 4". Winds within this system may gust up to 30 mph, so some reduced visibility chances are expected if you go into the Upper Peninsula primarily. Scattered travel impacts are also possible across the northern Lower Peninsula. We will likely have a last call map out right before the snow begins tomorrow morning. Stick around here at MSC! #miweather #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyNot much change since yesterday's first call snowfall outlook for snow primarily across northern and central Michigan incoming for February 24th & 25th. Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Okay, remember how we mentioned sneaky snow this weekend? Well, it started yesterday, and will continue today at times, but fill in greater as lake effect by Sunday.
Here on February 21st, 2026, most of the snow and freezing rain will continue across the western UP and northwestern LP. We will see a shift to more snow into central and southern Michigan by late this evening. Then on Sunday, snow should be on-and-off across the entire state, with an uptick in typical lake effect zones such as the spine of the western UP, and the entire Lake Michigan shoreline. Lake effect bands are very finicky, and are subject to microclimate wind shifts. It's very possible that a few locations in our 1-3" zone see 4-5" by the end of the day on Sunday. We will be monitoring radar for a dominant lake effect band that stretches across the peninsula. The increase of wind on Sunday morning may also reduce visibility on all roadways to under half a mile, so travel only as fast as conditions allow.
Bottom line, plan for some more of that "annoyance" snow. Not enough to be called a big storm, but enough to cover all side roads, and many of our main roads. Accumulation will be higher during the overnight hours when surface temperatures are NOT at or above 32°F for most of the state. This also means our chances at freezing drizzle are higher during the daylight hours. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeyOkay, remember how we mentioned sneaky snow this weekend? We fully expect to see your emoji reactions to this snowfall still-to-fall through the morning commute on Monday. Are you ready for winter to be over, or do you need this snow like there's no tomorrow?
