Marie Snowmobile Association >> 2/18/26 WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> As precipitation comes to an end over most of the U.P. this morning, attention turns to the next system bringing another round of potentially hazardous winter weather to the area tonight and Friday. Confidence in type/location/amounts of precipitation remains low at this time, but moderate to heavy snow and mixed winter precipitation will all be possible with this system. Mainly rain is expected Friday morning before transitioning to snow across the eastern U.P. and parts of far northern lower through the afternoon. A switch to all snow will likely hold off until later Friday night. Best chances for at least 2” of wet snow will come across the eastern U.P. and areas of northern lower along and north of M-68. Rain is expected to be the primary precip type south of M-68 at this time. The combination of strong winds and heavy snow will result in low visibility over the Keweenaw and near Lake Superior, as well as sporadic power outages. Totally on accident, groomers Lane and Pete met on 49 where Lane was coming north to 7 mile, and Pete was coming south to 7 mile.

I’m still over in the western Yoop, but our awesome operators have been checking in and keeping me informed so that I can keep you guys informed.
Groomer Pete is hitting the city route and part of 49 down to 7 mile. This part of our trail system hasn’t been done in a few days due to warm temps, but he’s going to work with the new snow and colder temps to whip them into shape.

Brimley Bill was out on trail 8 between Ranger Rd and the Soo and 480 from the Spile Dam turn around to 8. This was a 49 mile run and we so appreciate his time!
Here’s what he had to say-
“This morning (Tuesday) Jim B groomed the Mission Hill loop (889) while the temperature was still below freezing. Tonight I groomed part of 480 and 8 from Ranger Rd all the way to the Soo. Trail 8 was probably the roughest groomer ride I’ve had all season. I cut down all the bumps, but couldn’t get the snow to form a nice perfect ribbon. The trail is flat, and all ready for the snow that is in the forecast.”

Good morning all! I’m over in the western Yoop, and while it’s been very warm and sunny here ( 😔 ), the Soo and surrouding area has been only in the mid 30s. We had groomers out in the Bay Mills/Raco area yesterday morning.
High 30s today means groomers will be parked, but temps drop tonight and then 5-9” of snow is in the forecast.
We’ll come out of this tiny little warm up just fine.
I’m seeing a lot of misinformation due to the fact that some areas of the UP have been in the 40s, so I wanted to clarify that our area is still in really good shape and didn’t see the warmth and sun that some areas of the central and western UP did, and fresh snow will only make it better!
