Lake Gogebic Area Trail Report – 02/18

LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> 02/18

Bergland Area Groomer’s report for 2-17-26.

Machine’s were back out after the warmup we had and it looks as though the trail’s held up fairly well. Yes, they are rough but we should have them straightened out in a few days.

Temp’s are supposed to be around the upper 20’s to low 30’s the next several days and we did receive a couple inches of fresh overnight!

Also groomer’s may be on the trail during the daytime hours so please use caution. Gogebic Area Grooming ❄❄❄

WEATHER UPDATE via US National Weather Service Marquette Michigan >> The previously advertised winter storm has lifted into the area early this morning. Moderate to heavy snow is expected through much of the morning, save for the far southern UP, before transitioning to a wintry mix with freezing rain/drizzle this afternoon. Confidence remains low to medium regarding the spatial extent of freezing rain accumulation, however. Gusty winds and heavy wet snow may cause power outages in the Keweenaw.
Please view the updated briefing packet link below for all the details!

WATERSMEET - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club >> TRAIL UPDATE 2/17/26- Big Thank you to Groomers Gary and Dave for grooming overnight for 8 hours.
With the extreme warm weather and then the somewhat flash freeze through the night made for some tough grooming with moguls freezing up and trying to cut them down we had some balling of the snow. Long story short trails are pretty flat bridges still a little rough but this morning everything was like concrete. If we get the snow things should really be back to pretty good again. #watersmeet #westernup #snowphotos

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott's Superior Inn and Cabins >> 🌞➡️❄️ Western UP Trail Report – False Spring Is Officially Cancelled ❄️➡️🌞
Well folks… we survived the “Was That April?” warm spell of the last few days. Snowbanks shrank. Trails got a little sugary. We all nervously side-eyed the thermometer like it owed us money.
But guess what?
Winter just walked back in the room.
Tonight we flip the switch. Temps are dropping, the cold is returning, and the forecast is calling for up to a foot of fresh snow by Wednesday evening. Mother Nature basically said, “Relax, I was just kidding.”
Here’s what that means:
• ❄️ Fresh accumulation building back the base
• 🥶 Colder temps locking everything back in
• 🚜 Groomers getting back to laying down that corduroy magic
• 😁 Smiles per mile going way up
During the warm-up the trails got soft in spots (nothing unexpected), but the base held strong. With this incoming snow and cold, we’re about to go from “late March vibes” right back to prime-season riding.
So if you were sweating the thaw — don’t.
Snow is returning.
Cold is returning.
Happy is returning.
Load the sleds. The comeback tour starts tonight. 💪❄️ #ontonagon #westernup #snowphotos

Trail Condition: Fair
Last Groomed: February 13th, 2026
There are logging operations happening about two miles west of Kenton, use caution.
We will not be able to groom for couple of days due to the weather.
The trails are getting beat up, we will get back at it as soon as the temperatures allow.

Stay on the trail, if you don’t we could lose trail permissions on private property.
Groomers have the right of way on the trails, pull over and stop to let them safely pass!
We have Groomer Tracker installed in our groomers.
We groom every day that the weather conditions and equipment allow. Unforeseen circumstances may prevent us from going out, like a major blizzard and being snowed in at our homes or equipment breakdowns. #westernup
