SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 02/17 2/17/26 Good morning all! I’m over in the western Yoop, and while it’s been very warm and sunny here ( 😔 ), the Soo and surrouding area has been only in the mid 30s. We had groomers out in the Bay Mills/Raco area yesterday morning. High 30s today means groomers will be parked, but temps drop tonight and then 5-9” of snow is in the forecast. We’ll come out of this tiny little warm up just fine. I’m seeing a lot of misinformation due to the fact that some areas of the UP have been in the 40s, so I wanted to clarify that our area is still in really good shape and didn’t see the warmth and sun that some areas of the central and western UP did, and fresh snow will only make it better! 1) Winter Storm Warnings & Advisories from early Wednesday morning to Wednesday Evening. Most of the impact will be from 3am to 9am for Northern Michigan. For the list of counties and what you can expect, head here: www.9and10news.com/weather/latest-forecast/
2) U.P. and Tip of the Mitt will see the most snow. Some areas of Chippewa & Mackinac County could see 5-10" of snow!
3) Areas of the Northern Lower & Northern Central Lower could see a glaze of ice to .25" of ice accumulation.
4) Areas closer to Lake Michigan will stay rain and avoid issues.

Good morning everyone! HUGE thank you to Turbo and Diane for stepping up to help last night! They were out very early yesterday morning, and jumped in to help again last night when we had a hole in the schedule.
Here’s what Turbo had to say-
“Hello! For the second time today, we were back at it again grooming Trail 8 into Brimley and the power lines. We stepped up to the plate, because somehow signals got crossed and nobody was going out tonight to groom this route. We checked the Groomer tracker app at 10 tonight and noticed the groomer wasn't out. After a day with over a thousand sleds out we figured we better go out and clean things up and make it good for Sunday. It was a good thing we did. As you can see from the pictures it was whooped up from all of the traffic. We always want everyone to have the best riding experience while on our trails. We definitely didn't want to let anyone down. Trails are excellent! Get out and ride and enjoy the holiday weekend. Time for us to get some much needed rest. Until next time, Turbo”

Turbo and Diane went out very early this morning on their run on parts of 480, 8, and the 889 loop.
Here’s their report-
“Good morning everyone. Love is in the air! What a great way to spend our Valentines Day. I can't think of a more lovely way to treat Mrs. Turbo than to grab the Pisten Bully and groom some trails. All the while jamming out to some good old romantic music. Now for the good stuff. We left around 5:30am, to do the Mission Hill run(trail 889) we had to wait for the temperature to cool down. It got slightly above freezing last night. Passed our first sleds about 7:20. Four young men were up early hitting the trails. Not much has changed on the trails. Still excellent. Perfect riding conditions. Don't forget, it's our annual trail stop at the intersection of 8 and 889 in Raco. Please stop out and support us. Join the Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association if you're not already a member. We also have a donation box. Every little bit helps. Also, make sure you get a cup of our world famous hot cocoa. Make sure you tell them Turbo sent you. We are planning on going home and taking a nap. Have fun. Stay safe. Stay sober.”
