KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club >> 12/04 Our team was able to make additional passes on Trail 3, Hancock to Copper Harbor and Trail 17 Hancock to Calumet. The team was also able to open partial pieces of Trails 134 and 135. They will continue the work today, and we will have another update tomorrow. The Keweenaw Snowmobile Club has been out clearing Trail 3 from Toivola to Copper Harbor and Trail 17 from Hancock to Calumet. Yesterday they worked on parts of Trail 134 & 135. There is a lot of work to be done still all across the Western UP! A huge thank you to all volunter roders and business owners out helping!
There is still a lot of storm/blizzard clean up going on all across the Western UP! Have you been one of the generous volunteers that have come up to help clear the trails? Ryan Bennet will be heading up on Friday to help continue the clean up efforts! 👏 Ryan is a loyal rider of the Keweenaw. It’s awesome to see riders give back to the areas they ride! So thanks to Ryan and all others working so hard to get this season underway!

Temperatures get much colder Wednesday night into late week. Wind chills for many Thursday AM will be hovering near or below zero.
Another clipper system will be possible getting into our Friday.

As a cold front swings through, our favorable wind direction, water-to-air temperature difference, and other favorable lake effect ingredients ramp back up. At the current time, we are seeing enough signs for decent lake effect accumulation, primarily across the east-central UP, and slopes of Elmira/Gaylord. We begin with a couple 2-5" zones, but these areas may quickly see a jump to the next category up at our final call update tomorrow. Totals of 1-3" in west Michigan and the Porcupine Mountains will also suffice for now, but a few locations may see an upgrade to 2-5" where confidence improves. It's Michigan, it's meteorological winter, so while it may not be breaking news, it's still weather news that we must report. As meteorologists, it IS our job after all.

Primarily from noon Wednesday through 6 pm EST Thursday. Extensions for this time period are being monitored into very early Friday.

🌉 Portage Lake Lift Bridge crossing is not open, and won’t open until the Coast Guard closes the shipping lane.
⚠️Gates will remain closed on private property until trails can be opened.
🛑 Trail 130 between Eagle Harbor and Eagle River due to logging, can access both towns via their trail spurs until logging completes.
🛑 Trail 124 between Trail 3 at Vansville junction and the 122/124 intersection due to logging. Please respect this closure and stay out of this area so we don’t risk permanent trail closures.
🛑 Trail 133 closed until at least 12/15 due to hunting.
