KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club >> 12/02 Our team was able to open Trail 3, from Toivola, through Houghton / Hancock (reminder the Portage Lake Lift Bridge remains closed) all the way to Camp 7 Rd (commonly known as the north side of the “reroute”). Trail 17 from Hancock to Calumet is also open. We will continue working today, early season conditions exist, expect to see gates, trees, rocks etc until we can get things opened up! <> <> KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Snowmobile Club >> 12/01 December 1st! Much like many clubs across the UP, we’re dealing with a large amount of downed trees and branches hanging over our trails. Please be patient as we clean up and open things gradually. Conditions to Note: 🌉 Portage Lake Lift Bridge crossing is not open, and won’t open until the Coast Guard closes the shipping lane. ⚠Gates will remain closed on private property until trails can be opened. 🛑 Trail 130 between Eagle Harbor and Eagle River due to logging, can access both towns via their trail spurs until logging completes. 🛑 Trail 124 between Trail 3 at Vansville junction and the 122/124 intersection due to logging. Please respect this closure and stay out of this area so we don’t risk permanent trail closures. 🛑 Trail 133 closed until at least 12/15 due to hunting. Temperatures drop back into the single digits for most of the area tonight while snow showers graze the eastern UP. Superior Snowmobile Club >> A huge Thank You to all of the volunteers that have been working on clearing our trails for tomorrow's opener. If you are planning on coming up to ride anytime soon be aware that riding may be more challenging than just "early season riding". It would be great if you would come prepared to participate in the clean up. Some of the help can be as easy as shaking bent branches to release the tension and snow that covers them. Large trees have been reported on trails throughout the area. Chainsaws will be needed. Temperatures get much colder Wednesday night into late week. Wind chills for many Thursday AM will be hovering near or below zero.
Another clipper system will be possible getting into our Friday.

As a cold front swings through, our favorable wind direction, water-to-air temperature difference, and other favorable lake effect ingredients ramp back up. At the current time, we are seeing enough signs for decent lake effect accumulation, primarily across the east-central UP, and slopes of Elmira/Gaylord. We begin with a couple 2-5" zones, but these areas may quickly see a jump to the next category up at our final call update tomorrow. Totals of 1-3" in west Michigan and the Porcupine Mountains will also suffice for now, but a few locations may see an upgrade to 2-5" where confidence improves. It's Michigan, it's meteorological winter, so while it may not be breaking news, it's still weather news that we must report. As meteorologists, it IS our job after all.

Primarily from noon Wednesday through 6 pm EST Thursday. Extensions for this time period are being monitored into very early Friday.
