SAULT STE. MARIE AREA UPDATE via Sault Ste. Marie Snowmobile Association >> 03/11 3/11/2025 We saw the warm temps and sun all day yesterday, so we lost quite a bit of snow. Today, it’s very windy which can also be a snow killer. Grooming is still on pause due to warmth. We had riders check in yesterday that said the trails from the Soo and to Brimley, Raco and Bay Mills are still pretty dang good! Getting through towns and parking lots is bare though. Still lots of base on 8, 889, and the northern part of 480. There is a lot of water on 49 south past the Soo. That trail may be done for the season, unfortunately. Already heard sleds go by my place off of 8 this morning. Sounds like north of M28 is your best bet if you’re getting those spring rides in! We’ll keep you updated! <> <> Sault Ste. Damaging winds could blow down trees and power lines. Power outages are possible. Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles. Good morning everyone!
While we certainly didn’t need the warm and sun yesterday, our hard working volunteers were itching to go as soon as temps dropped.
Our first report comes from Warren-
“We went out at 1 AM. Club member Steve & myself at 27 degrees did 480 from the Spile Dam turnaround, and 8 all the way to Brimley and back as well as the electric lines. I think everybody’s gonna be real happy with that, it cleaned up really well. I finished up at about 19° and then left the Groomer for turbo. Turbo is gonna hit the 889 loop and Brimley grade so I think everybody will be ready to go by about 7:30 - 8 o’clock for all of our trails out this way.”

Trail 8 from the Soo to Brimley will be done tonight, the city trails were done yesterday, and will be done again tomorrow night. I’ll update when I hear from the Kinross crew as well, but I know that everything was done on Thursday ahead of the warm up.

We didn’t end up with as much new snow as we wanted out of the system, but lake effect is lingering a bit. I show about 4” of new snow here in the Soo. It looks like just west us (Brimley/Raco) got a little more.
