FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 02/20
It’s gonna be a nice weekend but a warm up coming after sunday. It’s a nice and calm 16 degrees in Frederic this thursday morning.
I had a great ride yesterday leaving Sledheads and heading off to the west. Trail 679 was great and all the way to Starvation Lake was great, then on to Alba and the Jordan Valley Trail. Rode the valley trail and it was a little ripply but not horrible. From there to Elmira with a stop to see Larry at Sevenski Inn. Had a great talk with Larry, he is 91 and still running that place. He said he was going to get his loader started to move some more snow. He said he is just glad he can do that at his age. He looks darn good for 91 and it was very nice to have a talk with him. He stopped in here at Sledheads years ago when I first met him. I headed east from Larrys on 4 and 76 and ended up a few miles north of gaylord on trail 7 and thats when it got rought. Apparenty Gaylord is having groomer issues so I rode back to Frederic and the bumps help keep the speed down. Stopped at Porter Haus at 7 for dinner and I was the only sled there. Hopefully they get the groomers fixed soon. All in All I had a great 90 mile loop. As in the past it seems north and west is the way to head. Thanks for checking in.

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its a nice19 degrees this morning in downtown Frederic, at least it stayed a nice cold 6 degrees overnight at my house and I have already seen a few sleds this morning. Riding today should still be o.k. but hard out there and thats better than mush. Already had first rider of the day in and his pic is below with a couple other pics to show the snow is holding. Presidents weekend is usually a big weekend, I still dont like the forcast for next week but we still have lots of snow in the woods and its a long ways from gone. Thankfully it never made 32 yesterday and if the temps do reach the predicted highs it should only be for a little while in the late afternoon. Its cloudy and quiet out there and hopefully the sun stays hidden. If you do ride just be careful of icy corners. Thanks for checking in. Pete #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> We know you'll pass by this post for snowfall today, but here on February 12th, 2026, it's quite a reflective moment to see just how far we have come this winter. Just a couple weeks ago it was lake effect snow every single day. Today, a light band of 1-3" near Munising is all we will need to write home about. We even tossed in some humor for those not in a designated snowfall zone. A couple slick spots will pop up along M-28 near Munising, and perhaps around Petoskey if a longer lake effect band happens to form, but this is more unlikely than likely. Enjoy your rather snow-free day here in Michigan in early February. If you've read this far, comment your favorite memory of winter to this point. - Chief Meteorologist Joel Fritsma #miweather #newberry #soo #petoskey#gaylordWe know you'll pass by this post for snowfall today, but here on February 12th, 2026, it's quite a reflective moment to see just how far we have come this winter. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its wednesday about 11 a.m. at 25 degrees with a light snow in the air. Just had a group of guys in that rode down from Gaylord and their trail report was not encouraging as they said it was rough. We really havent had any new snow in a week and I am not thrilled with the weather forcast thru next tuesday showing 30s and even a 40 in that time frame. Most all of the snow that we have is well worn now. My supplier is pretty much back ordered on many items that I need. I tried to get 20 different items and all but 4 of them are on back order. Carbides especially have been back ordered since early december. Here we are almost half way thru Feb and we should be in our prime time right now. I wish I had better to tell you. Pic below are riders that come in every year. Thanks for checking in and snow chants may need to be started up again. Pete #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
