ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Roxey’s Bar & Grill >> 02/05 ❄️ Ontonagon County Winter Update – February 5, 2025 ❄ 🌡️ Today’s Weather Alert: A Winter Storm Watch is in effect from 11:00 AM EST today until 1:00 AM EST Friday. Blizzard conditions are possible with 2-5 inches of snow and wind gusts up to 55 mph. Whiteout conditions may make travel treacherous, and power outages are possible. 🛷 Snowmobile Trail Update <> ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via Scott’s Superior Inn and Cabins >> 02/05 Ontonagon County Snowmobile Trail Report We have a ton of snow! Ontonagon County is buried in the white gold, and conditions are excellent for riding. Scattered lake effect snow is expected daily through the weekend, keeping trails refreshed. However, with bitter cold temperatures hanging on, be sure to dress appropriately and prepare for extreme winter conditions. Our trails are groomed daily, providing some of the best riding conditions you’ll find. If you’re looking for smooth trails and fewer crowds, midweek riding is ideal. On weekends, be sure to get out early—traffic picks up quickly, and trails will start to get bumpy by midday. Enjoy the ride, stay safe, and respect private property and trail rules. Uncertainty still remains where this snowband will park, however, heavy snowfall rates will likely create difficult travel along US-41 from Delta to Marquette/Alger counties. INCREDIBLE snow pack and great sled clubs continue to make trails beyond amazing! All trails are in surprisingly good condition except Trail 1 along Lake Superior which has a thin, snurty ice base. No big changes for the UP, although a bit more snow is now forecast for the Keweenaw and central UP. Trails are a little choppy but our groomers are out so hopefully they will be back in good shape by tonight. We had to switch groomers going west so groomer tracker is not showing but will get that back up and running soon. A lot of trees came down again with the last little storm so please watch out for trees and remember Ride Right and Ride Safe. Forecast: Very windy with snow, 3-6 cm expected; storm total snowfall 5-10 cm. Gusty winds could blow around unsecured objects.
High: 28°F (-2°C) | Low: 13°F (-10°C)
Trail Conditions: Trails in Ontonagon County are currently in excellent condition, with a solid base and regular grooming. However, today’s incoming winter storm could create hazardous conditions, including reduced visibility and drifting snow. Please check updated trail conditions before heading out.

Every trail is in good to very good condition with the exception of Trail #1 along Lake Superior between Silver City and The Porkies Ski Hill. Very light snow, mostly snirt, slow down for any low area as they are bumpy.

The good and the bad.
First we'll start with the good. Everything in our system will be groomed tonight before you all wake up.
The Trail's were in very bad shape. Heavy traffic, and warm Temp's, we kinda expected as much.
We had one machine leave early (4pm). Snow was rolling through the drag and blade but everything started freezing in tight quickly and traffic over a fresh groomed trail we started getting sugar snow. (Which doesn't pack well). There's plenty of snow out there but we need some new to help improve what we're working with. They are calling for a couple inches tomorrow which will help bring the moisture back.
