KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Keweenaw Trail Reports >> 01/25
How far do you drive to ride the Keweenaw?
Or how far do you backpack via snowmobile to ride the Keweenaw? Tegan Noltner and Josh Held are no strangers to riding the Keweenaw, but this trip they brought Tegan’s brother, a first time rider to the area! We always love showing people around this beautiful place for the first time!
The group actually traveled to Mercer, Wisconsin by truck and trailer and then unloaded the sleds and took the trails the rest of the way to Houghton to stay last night!
Today they left Houghton and headed to High Rock Bay and The Rocket Range. Trail 136, the short spur trail to High Rock has not had a groomer down it yet this season due to low snow cover and a persistent water crossing. Good news is the water crossing has been reported as completely frozen after the extreme cold temps this past week, however the trail is pretty beat and in needs of grooming.
The group rode into Copper Harbor to fuel up at Copper Harbor Fuel Stop and enjoy a delicious meal at The Mariner North before continuing their ride through Lac La Belle to Gay! Note: trail 133 (from Lac La Belle to Gay) has only been groomed 2 times this year due to low snow cover and has been reported as very rough the last 3 days. Please plan your rides accordingly and continue to check the Groomer Tracker app for current grooming operations. All other trails within the system have been reported as great. Of course with the high traffic, the early birds definitely get the worm or we should say ribbon trails. Trails obviously can show signs of heavy traffic by afternoon and evening before the groomer operators are able to get back out there and work their magic! Huge thank you to the Keweenaw Snowmobile Club for their non stop efforts to provide the best possible riding experience for all riders!
Thanks for sharing the beautiful photos Tegan! Enjoy the rest of your ride!

Blizzard conditions are expected to develop, resulting in areas near zero visibility, especially near Lake Superior where gusts upwards of 60 mph are likely. WEATHER UPDATE via Midwest Weather >> ~(Updated) Snowfall Forecast Sunrise Sunday-Sunrise Tuesday~ A major winter storm is expected to bring significant snowfall to portions of the region. Most of the accumulating snow will be along and north of I-80. No matter how much snow will fall, there will be strong northwest winds that will create blowing and drifting snow. Travel north of I-80 will be near impossible at times. Some road closures are possible along and north of I-90 given greater accumulation and more persistent blizzard-like conditions. Heaviest snowfall totals through sunrise Tuesday (there will be more after) will be along Lake Superior. Snowfall rates could exceed 2" an hour at times due to lake enhancement. Expect over a foot in most areas along the lakeshore before dropping as you get closer to the WI border. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskey~OUTDATED~
