PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders – 01/22
1/22/25 10 degrees this morning with a light snow falling. We are under a winter storm warning until tonight. "They" are calling for 5-10", depends who you watch. I have some really good news and unfortunately some not so good so lets get to it……
Groomer Mike H. ran the Point trails yesterday and called them in great shape. With all the recent snow and cold even the Doe Lake Rd. ridge thats been thin all season is good to go.
I ran the South trail #8, but skipped the swamp, and it turned out great. Plenty of snow on it now and the water holes on the south end of the power line are nuttin but small wet spots now. There is still a couple of very small wet spots in the Federal Forest section but they are easy to get around. They should freeze in within the next couple of days. Now, for the not so good…….
Groomer Keith was runnin the Stump trail last night and had a break down. The front tire broke off the machine and the track came off. Of course he was almost to da stump so he was about as far away from the barn as you could get. Groomers Mike C., Gerald and Glen loaded up 2 machines with all the anticipated tools and parts needed and headed to the rescue. They figured about a 4 hr. run to him then a couple hrs. to fix it, in the negative degree weather keep in mind, then about 4 hrs. back. It is 0800 this morning as I write this and I haven`t heard from them yet if they made it back. This will mess up our schedule for a day or so on grooming.
Thats it for today. Bring on this 5-10"
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Groomer Chris

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> It's noon here on Monday, January 12th, and this week does present a couple instances of lake effect snow throughout the week. As a preliminary first call for the entire week, we've displayed current odds at areas receiving more than 4" of snow based on data from medium range models, and the WPC. Most of the lake effect snow for the UP will fall between Tuesday and Thursday, where much of the higher elevation areas along Lake Superior currently have a greater than 50% chance at 4" of snow by the end of the work week. For much of the LP, lake effect snow will be confined primarily to Lake Michigan and Lake Huron, especially AFTER Wednesday heading into Thursday. We are keeping an area of 1-20% across much of southern and central Michigan in the event wind shifts or passing clippers allow for extra accumulation, but the greatest chances for 4" will be in the far southwest corner, the thumb, or your typical lake effect zones across northern lower Michigan. We have lake effect snow forecasts coming all week, along with other forecasts for other weather phenomena such as wind, rain, and perhaps mixed precipitation. NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Pine Stump >> 1-11-26 Around 4 inches of snow last night. I see the groomers all made it out. I would guess the trails should freeze up flat now. I would imagine it will be lower traffic during the week. It would be a pretty good week to ride if you can sneak away! #newberry #snowphotos... See MoreSee Less
