Straits Area Trail Report – 01/18
STRAITS AREA UPDATE via Straits Area Snowmobile Club >> 01/18 Saturday January 18th There are several areas that are rideable but no good way to make a loop without running into open areas that have rocks and very little snow. We moved a groomer up to Trout Lake last night and did what we could to help the loop around town. We will groom that area again tonight. Earlier this week several people were able to leave Moran and head north with good results but after yesterday’s weather I would not recommend at this time. As soon as we have better news we will update. Light snow will accompany the front but generally less than an inch is expected. Behind the front temperatures will fall into the single digits above and below zero. This combined with gusty winds will bring wind chills down into the teens and twenties below zero. A Cold Weather Advisory is in effect for Gogebic and Iron counties tonight through Saturday morning. Lake effect snow will develop behind the front in the northwest wind snowbelts with several inches expected. Trail update
Yesterday did not do us any favors. We were holding up ok and then the short warm up really took action and it stayed warm well into midnight and now it’s back to 20 degrees. We have been grooming and doing what we can to help the trails. Currently everything is very thin.
