Paradise Area Trail Report – 01/12
PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Paradise Area Night Riders – 01/12 1/12/25 Groomer Dave ran the Point trails yesterday and reported it turned out good +. He did not run the Doe Lake rd ridge cause its so thin on snow. Groomer Keith ran the Pine Stump trail and said it turned out good but there are some thin spots also. He told me he had alot of trouble with riders following him around and tearing up his fresh groom. This is one reason we don`t believe in the groomer tracker (aka: groomer chaser) thing. These people just wreck it for everyone else! I am runnin the South trail #8 today and I think I`ll be the only one out, but not 100% sure on that one. In other than trail news………We have a bunch of trail maps if any of the local businesses need any. Just get ahold of one of us, ya`ll know who we are. I want to give a HUGE thank-you to Dan and Monica Millikan for all the groomer snacks, pop and the 30 rack. MUCH appreciated!!!!!!!! 28 degrees this morning, cloudy and very windy out of the SE. No new snow in the last 24 hrs but the weather guessers are calling for some for the next few days, lets hope they are right, sure could use it as the guys are saying some spots are still pretty thin for snow…..like this……

14 degrees this morning and the blizzard is still going strong! Its been 24 hrs. straight and they are saying another 24 before it lets up. Its crazy out der folks! I`ve got drifts at least 6` high and I`ve got one door open enough to even get outa my house! I`ve lived in da yoop for almost 26 yrs. and can`t remember anything like this. As far as the trails go.....I think its gonna be another day or two before we can get out.....I`m actually thinking not until Wednesday.....but we WILL be out as soon as we can. The trails will probably be a blast right now for all you drift busters but you groomed trail riders will have to wait a couple days till we can get to it. Bout all I got for now. If you do head out for a ride today be mindful of possible blown down trees and crazy drifting and be safe!

Its Sunday afternoon, 5pm, and a down right blizzard out der. I don`t remember seeing a storm this bad in a long time. Thought I would jump on here real quick cause social media is going crazy thinking we are done grooming. This is far from the truth! We are done on the Falls trail #45 and the swamp on trail #8 just south of town cause that last warm up really put a hurtin on them. The warmer swamp water really started to flow cause of the melt and caused a lot of open spots. We WILL NOT risk swamping a machine! We are gonna wait out this blizzard and get back at it on all the other trails. This may not be until Tuesday or even Wednesday as this is supposed to last until Monday night or early Tuesday morning. We have to dig ourselves out too!!!! Sooooo....please be patient. I will jump on here tomorrow morning and give ya`ll an update.

Blizzard Warnings have moved South to include Leelanau, Emmet, Cheboygan, Southeastn Chippewa, Mackinac Island/Bois Blanc, Beaver Island. Ice Storm Warnings have moved South to include Wexford, Missaukee, Oscoda, Alcona and Alpena Counties. Winter Weather Advisories now include Clare, Osceola Counties.
The warm line is farther South keeping higher totals North. Winds continue to pick up along with the snow tonight.

Phase 2 of the Winter Storm is kicking off! This will bring heavy snow and gusty winds still for the U.P. and Tip of the Mitt. The icing area we have talked about for the last few days landed where we thought it would. Leelanau down to Wexford and Northeast. These areas could see up to .5" of ice through today and tonight with isolated higher amounts. Winds will continue to gust upwards of 40-50mph. The snow totals map you see is on top of what you have already seen.
Don't be fooled, the lull from the initial burst to the second part is the system nearing. The second phase will be the worst with this storm. This afternoon - Monday morning.

A dangerous ice storm will begin tonight for portions of northern lower Michigan. The heaviest ice accretion takes aim in a localized area from Traverse City to Gaylord to Atlanta with over 0.50" of ice expected. Around this area, a zone of significant icing between 0.25' to 0.50" is expected - which is still enough to take down tree limbs and create power outages. The worst of the icing will be tonight into Monday morning, and then we deal with high winds moving in Monday morning as well which will only exaggerate the effects of this event.

Snow totals will be between one and four FEET when all is said and done on Tuesday in the UP. Further south, a mix is expected which will keep accumulations lower, and also will provide a sharp cutoff of accumulations. The difference between a foot of snow and 2” may be the width of one county.
Further south, this system will end as snow for lower Michigan on Monday & Tuesday, which is why we have a wide area within a trace to an inch, and western lower in a 1-3” zone with wording of higher totals possible. We may need to adjust totals here as new data comes clearer for Tuesday.
