ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club – UP – 01/05
Sunday 1/5/2025
❄️Trail 101 Groomed Last Night – Good to Excellent Condition
❄️Trail 13 Groomed Last night – Good to Very Good Condition
❄️Trail 12 from 101 to trail 1 outside of White Pine – Poor to Good – ‼️Water hazards exist, ride with caution! They are easily navigable.
❄️🛑Trail 12 from 137 to Greenland RIDING NOT ADVISED. The groomer broke open two large wet areas rendering the trail impassable. We aborted the groom and we’ll assess next steps today.
❄️Trail 12 from Ontonagon to 101 has not been groomed. The Driess Creek bridge is out, traffic must detour down Norwich road.
❄️Trail 137 from Ontonagon to Trail 13 is rated poor. Half of the trail base has been lost and gravel is in it. We tried to pull snow from the sides last night. There’s enough snow to get into town for sure, but it’ll be a slower ride due to the gravel. ‼️Trail 12 from Ontonagon west to 101, including the detour along Norwich road all the way to 101 is being groomed in today. We’re going to spend time along Norwich road to get a good surface for sleds and open up the powerline trail. We’re working on this to provide additional access besides 137 into Ontonagon. Reminder, Driess Creek bridge is out!
PLEASE SUPPORT YOUR TRAIL SIDE STOPS! RIDE RIGHT! Ride slowly as trails will get icy through the day. After each groom trails continue to improve!
ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> BRUSHING. Our trails will look very different this season as we are getting caught up on brushing. Thank you to Mac for bouncing around and pushing the limits of not getting stuck to get LP Walsh Road back in shape. Snow farming will be much easier when groomers can see where they can get the good stuff from and not find stumps or boulders! #ontonagon #westernup... See MoreSee Less
LAKE GOGEBIC AREA UPDATE via Gogebic Area Grooming >> 11-9-25 update from Gogebic Area Grooming. We are currently sitting at 24° with a low of 17° this evening. Around 3"of snow has fallen over the past 24hrs and was our first measurable snowfall of the 25/26 season. As you can see by the pictures we've been getting everything ready for the December 1st opening (Weather permitting). Next up. We will be putting new cutting blades and guide plates on our Trail Setter drag. We've heard the swamps are starting to make ice and the long range looks favorable for us to be able to get out there and start getting everything in shape🤞. Thanks everyone.. Think snow!! ❄️❄️❄️ #lakegogebic#westernup... See MoreSee Less

FROM Great Lakes Weather & Climate >> 📡 Statewide radar loop through 10 AM today (11/9) shows our two distinct snowmakers in progress. The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall. Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot. Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord#cadillac #traversecity #petoskey...
