KEWEENAW PENINSULA UPDATE via Western UP Trail Reports – 12/19 Yesterday we had no snow and this morning there was just a dusting. Now they are saying 2-4 inches by 7am Friday. Superior Snowmobile Club and we groomed Mass City to Toivola tonight- everything is nice and smooth for yas!! Can’t emphasize this enough download the Groomer Tracker app it’s awesome! You can see where and when the groomers have groomed through our MI, WI, MN and a couple other states. If you are able to join a club and help groom no matter where you live that would be awesome! Nick said, “Had a great time on the trails the last two days, even got to ride on freshly groomed trails last night!
🛑 The Portage Lake Lift Bridge has not yet been opened for snowmobile crossing. This means you must trailer across to ride north or south of the bridge.
🛑 Trail 124 is temporarily closed for logging – latest update from the club now states “Tentatively will open around 1/15/25”
⚠ Trail 133 is listed as being open as of 12/15/24 according to the club however, they warn “Trail 133 is now open, but has not been groomed yet. Please ride with caution and expect closed gates and other obstacles.”
NOTE: it appears a groomer is heading down trail 133 as we post this. Hopefully will have further update from the club in the morning!
⚠ There is a reroute on trail 3 (south of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge) in Twin Lakes. Please follow the signs for the trail and refrain from riding along side of the highway.
‼ Thankfully, we are under a current winter weather advisory and some fresh snow is forecasted to fall over the area.

It’s really hard to say the “official 2025/26” snowmobile season has ended….. so we will only say grooming operations have ended and gates on trails crossing private land will be locked as of 4/1/26.
With the upcoming forecast ❄️🩵 and trails still being in excellent 🤩 condition, it should be noted for those that still want to ride… You CAN!
❌ Private land leases end and gates will close on 4/1/26
❌Portage Lake Lift Bridge gates will close on 4/1/26
🟢 Trails on state land do not “close” but be aware you could encounter ORV’s on these trails. For detailed information please check the DNR interactive maps
🟢 Trail 3 from Lake Linden to Hancock can be ridden at any time of the year
🟢 Trail 17 from Calumet to Hancock can be ridden at any time of the year
🟢 Trail 3 running south out of Houghton to Mass City area can be ridden at any time
Please respect private land owner rights. We can't have a trail system without their support.

What a great last snowmobile trip of the season ❄️❄️ 🩵 Wrapped up the season last weekend with 4 days of flat & fast trails, and ended the last day with the Vintage Snowmobile Run For Fun Fundraiser for the Valley Sno Drifters🛷

Well most trails close after today, Trail 3 is open all year and there’s plenty of snow left in these parts
It’s kinda sad dayfor trail riders especially since reports from Toivola north trails are reporting excellent conditions and a snowstorm in the forecast!
But gates will be locked up till next season
Personally right now starts my favorite rides of the year
Warm temps(sometimes tee shirt weather) but the beauty of the creeks and waterfalls are gorgeous!
I’m sure I’ll be sharing pictures for another month and will post here so y’all can ride vicariously through me!
It’s been a great winter
I’m pretty sure this will be my last season of riding with my battle with ALS
My body is giving up on me but not my spirit so stay tuned, ya never know
