Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/07
Gaylord Bureau – December 7, 2024 9:50 a.m. Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area got hit with over 40 inches of snow to start out winter. All trails are open and in good shape but there may be some choppy spots due to heavy traffic. Groomers are out working on it to keep them smooth. Please remember that even with the fresh snow we received, we are still building up our base. While it does look like there may be a warm up this weekend, that will help build our base. Groomers will run in the evening as conditions and temperatures allow. A few things to remember about groomers: – Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Want to be ready? My back parking lot is full and people are having a problem finding trailer parking. There is light snow falling and we had a couple inches since last night. Its now noon thirty and still snow in the air and riders all over the place. Almost like the good old days when there were riders everywhere. Thankfully the temp is still at 29 degrees. The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey
