FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 12/05
And another 8 to 10 inches overnight, and thats on top of yesterdays snow. My ride was fantaastic yesterday, rode up to Gayord and on to INdian River, trail was a little snirty just south of Wolverine but still good, On to Alanson and thru town, got gas and then headed up thru Brutus, Pellston and on to Mackinaw City. Didnt see a single sled on that 25 or 30 mile stretch and there was s foot of wet heavy snow on it. There was only one sled track on it and thankfully it packed it down some for me. In to Mackinaw City and could barely see the bridge with the blowing and snowing. Took a couple pics there and then on to the Key Hole for lunch. Took me 4 hours to get there and was 83 miles total. Usually I make it up there in 2.5 hours. On ward and south from there to Cheboygan and stopped for gas in INdian River and ran into Sam Jackson and Mike there. Made it back to Frederic a little after 8 at 165 miles for a great first ride loop of the season. I plowed again this morning here in Frederic and weather looks like warm up coming. Hopefully not enough to melt us off. Thanks for checking in. Pete
WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> In the spirit of Christmas, here's today's forecast for December 23rd, 2025 that really doesn't feel much like the holiday season. Let's discuss! Temperatures are slow-going to rise, then suddenly as we reach the afternoon hours, temperatures snap into the mid-40's for much of the state. Many locations close to the MI/OH border may surpass 50°F. Further north, mid-30's are likely. Sunshine will be noticeable out there today, as partly cloudy skies are the main icon. Winds will increase beyond noon as well, gusting between 20-30 mph for most, with some isolated spots in northeast Michigan, and along Lake Superior gusting 30-40 mph. Winds will be out of the west, and more details on the wind will be posted next. A light round of mixed precipitation is possible overnight into Wednesday for the Sault Ste. Marie region. JORDAN VALLEY AREA UPDATE via Jordan Valley Trails Council >> Groomers ran north and south today, unfortunately neither operator had much good to report. The extended warm up from last week has taken a drastic toll on the trails. North of Elmira the trails were really thin today. The trails south of Alba are thin but flat and rideable as of now. The rest of this week is expected to be cold but very little to no snow with high 30’s on Saturday. The end of next week is predicted to have high 30’s with some freezing rain. Stay tuned, once we get sufficient snow our volunteers will be be back out there grooming! #jordanvalley#gaylord... See MoreSee Less

FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> A touch of new snow overnight but not enough to get excited about. Another day of slow sled traffic on saturday. I did count about 25 sleds across the street yesterday at the peak and I see a few over there now for breakfast. Still light snow in the air. I am certainly not thrilled with the forcast this coming week and it did make it up to 36 yesterday. The sleds that are out there are making the best of what we do have. For the first time in a few years Junior and the Obama Tour stopped by so it was good to visit with them. They are hoping for more riding this season too. Thanks for checking in and we will be patiently waiting for the next snow. Pete #gaylord#snowphotos... See MoreSee Less

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Here is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise. Not too impactful of a system in terms of Michigander standards, but do take it slow if you encounter any snow squalls and/or visibly slick roads. #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea#gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyHere is our last call for ongoing system snow and lake effect snow from now through Sunday evening at 6 pm EST, December 20th & 21st, 2025.
