IRONWOOD / WESTERN U.P. UPDATE – 12/04

The Big Lake is definitely kicking up the lake effect snow! They say up to 11” through morning. Keep on dancing, we need the cold temps too! Visibility is down to almost nothing. Local friends, stay safe on your evening commute.

Trail Boss Jerry, feel free to add your plans on equipment going out for the days to follow.

Current conditions at the groomer barn.
-Kami ✌🏼

SIDNAW - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via The Sidnaw Station >> We got about 2 plus inches of snow in Sidnaw last night, hoping to get another 1-3 inches tonight. Took a ride over to Kenton, trail 8 is in good condition. The pictures are on the bridge behind the federal forest building. We wanted to check out the 107. We were told the gate is unlocked and they will be grooming today. We will take a ride on that one later in the week and give a report. Enjoy your ride! #sidnaw #westernup #snowphotos ... WATERSMEET - WESTERN U.P. UPDATE via U.P. Thunder Riders Snowmobile Club >> Went out to check the trails today and as the pictures show lots of rocks and most corners washed out with ice underneath. Road trail 13 to trail 2 east to Watersmeet then 2 east of town to 3 north to Bruce Crossing. Trails do get a little better going north but we need more snow. Also road trail 2 west to Marenisco and overall was not that bad but still a lot of rocks in center of trail in spots especially around bridges. We will be sending out groomers tomorrow morning to see if we can drag some snow in from the sides , fix some corners and do some brushing but don’t expect things to get to much better until we get more snow. If you decide to ride our trails please be careful as trails are a real mixed bag from poor to pretty good. Ride right and ride safe. #watersmeet #westernup #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

ONTONAGON AREA UPDATE via North Country Snowmobile Club UP >> The traffic on our trails today was incredible. It's obvious snowmobiling remains STRONG here in the midwest with enthusiasts everywhere. Honestly, some of the busiest we've seen in recent memory. Our tractor we hope to recover from the trails early next week, we think a sensor or electrical issue (damn computers). We have limited grooming on-going tonight as we went hard Friday night for today. Download the Groomer Tracker app to see exactly where we go. Thank you all for visiting our area and spending your hard earned money with our community.

Michigan Snowmobile Trail Report

WEATHER UPDATE via Meteorologist Brad Sugden >> SNOW TIME! Posted (Jan 11 2pm).
A clipper system comes in Sunday with impacts lasting into Monday. This is SNOW POTENTIAL Sunday AND Monday. Don't come at me 9am Sunday morning and say "where's my snow." lol.
As you can see the effects of this will vary GREATLY depending on where you are in the state.
We go from up to 1" for most areas in the light blue to about 1-3" at best for most of the Lower Peninsula. The west side gets more because of a quick shot of lake effect with gusty winds and cold temperatures. The U.P. is the bread winner here with the center of the low pressure hanging out over Lake Superior for a bout 24hrs. That will cause more lift which we need for snow to develop along with more lake effect due to strong winds and VERY cold air. It'll be a fluffy snow that piles up rather quick.
Winds will be very strong as times with a lot of cold air pouring in by Monday morning. Expect some areas in West Michigan to have wind chills as cold as -5 with the Western U.P. having wind chills as cold as -20. BRR!
TIMING is posted on my page a post or two down. Please go there and scroll down. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #marquette #munising #seney #newberry #soo #straitsarea #gaylord #cadillac #benzie #traversecity #petoskeySNOW TIME! Posted (Jan 11 2pm).
