PARADISE AREA UPDATE via Town Hall Snowmobile Club Paradise MI – 12/04
12/4/24 26 degrees this morning and snowing……still. It hasn`t quit since my last report a few days ago! We now have a solid 3 feet on the ground and we are under a winter storm warning till tomorrow night….oh boy…..I`m hoping the wind don`t pick up like they are saying!
We have had the groomers out. Groomer Mike C. took a machine with a drag and ran up to Chic`s corner to clear trees, he ran the North and South loops outa town also. He was surprised at how many trees were down and quite a bit of water under the snow too. I took just a machine and ran into town and set the town trail.
We had a drivers mtg. last night and came up with a plan, so here it is…..With this storm coming we are gonna stay outa the woods till Friday then we will take a machine out trail #8 to Pine Stump to clear trees and pack it in. We will also take a machine around the Point trails #452 & #453 and do the same. Sunday we will take 2 machines and head south on trail #8. We are gonna skip the swamp just south of town and start at the river mouth. The reason for skipping the swamp is it looks like we have a slight warm up coming for next week and with the ground not froze yet we would do more damage than good, same for trail #45 to the Falls, we will get on these trails as soon as the weather lets us.
If you decide to come UP for the weekend I say GO FOR IT!!!! Tons of powder to play in, just a couple of sections not quite ready. Keep a sharp eye for trees down and some water under the snow. OK, ya`ll got the skinny for the next few days!
LET `ER SNOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! please don`t warm up too much Groomer Chris

WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> Final snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula..... #miweather #keweenaw#westernup#marquette#munising #seney #newberry #soo #gaylord#cadillac#benzie#traversecity#petoskeyFinal snowfall totals have been released from our blizzard of March 15th-17th, 2026 here in Michigan. Do note, some locations are approximated due to data gaps in the Upper Peninsula.
No doubt the forecast lived up to its insanity, with many locations getting over 40" of snow across the central Upper Peninsula, and 8-10 foot snow drifts to make things even more extreme. In terms of forecast verification, our forecast did hit the 80%+ accuracy threshold we strive for after each event. Our final verification was 83%, and most of the the misses were where the system shifted slightly south to give parts of the northern Lower Peninsula greater than 24", and parts of the western Upper Peninsula much less. Anything over 18" of snow is just "a lot" at this point anyways, so we aren't stressing too badly about the miss in the Lower Peninsula near the Mackinac Bridge. Lake effect zones in SW Michigan did verify, as text was featured under the forecast that a couple spots would see locally higher amounts.
Overall, this will be a storm we won't soon forget, which adds to the list of wild weather we've experienced in Michigan over the last two weeks. If you have any additional snowfall reports to add to the list that are not affected by drifting, drop them in the comments below here on X or Facebook. A new two-day record was also broken at the NWS office in Marquette of 36"+ with this blizzard, which is just one record smashed by this blizzard. ... See MoreSee Less

I’m guessing we got between 30and 36 inches out of the storm A lot of 4-6 foot drifts. I spotted a 8ft drift hiding Everyone be careful and have fun. MACKINAC COUNTY UPDATE via Mackinac County Snowmobile Association >> Monday March 16th Trail update Firsts thoughts are what the heck do we do??? Well at the moment we unhooked drag and running the John Deere track tractor just to try and break through. We received somewhere around 3ft so far where it hasn't blowed. There is 6 ft plus drifting in spots. The drifts are gonna get hard to. As much as I would like to say it's awesome out here it just isn't and will take several days to get somewhat of a trail. We are just getting started so there could be more surprises but we are trying!! For the next several days if you are coming up our trails are drifting and there is so much snow that it will take several trips to get smoothed out. We will update when things change. GRAND MARAIS AREA UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> Trail update" WE HAVE SNOW!!! Unfortunately we are holding off grooming until the weather dies down and then long enough to get dug out!! I do not know how many inches of snowfall we have had with this current storm, but drifts are from 5 to 10 feet around my house and driveway! I hope everyone is staying safe and indoors. It took about 35 minutes to dig out far enough for our dog to go out... and right back in!!! I put a shovel in the snow on top of where our generator is...in case power goes out and it don't start I will be able to find it. Stay safe, ride right, and for now, bench race!!! NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via Tahquamenon General Store >> 2nd time digging out drifted paths from house to store. Hard to predict the total so far , but I'd say 20" and blizzard warnings for another 18 hours. Definitely closed until further notice. If your needing to be out, but shouldn't be Paradise Rec Sports did post they were Open until 6 pm. Glad someone can accommodate for emergency sake. Wheelhouse Diner is also Open. I'd advice to stay off road so county plow trucks can do their job without risk of someone stuck on highway, which report big truck near Rivermouth stuck on M123 in snow drift. Be safe, be smart. #newberry #snowphotos2nd time digging out drifted paths from house to store. Hard to predict the total so far , but I'd say 20" and blizzard warnings for another 18 hours.
