Gaylord Area Trail Report – 12/03
Gaylord Bureau – December 3, 2024 9:15 a.m. Snow, baby, snow! We’re having an epic start to snowmobile season and the Gaylord area currently has over 40 inches, with more in the forecast! The groomers have been running since trails opened on December 1st. Trail #7 is looking good right now. Johannesburg received slightly less snow and is in fair condition. Please remember that even with the fresh snow we received, we are still building up our base. Groomers will keep running as we receive more snow. A few things to remember about groomers: – Groomers are out there to help you have a better riding experience and always have the right of way. Want to be ready? There is supposed to be a clipper tongith which might give us some nice thick snow.. That makes me think I may have to be closed tommorow so I can get a ride in. The first one is the synoptic (aka "system") snow associated with a low that is moving east through southern Ohio. The counterclockwise flow around the low is shown over Metro Detroit as moisture interacts with decreasing temps, leading to this morning's snowfall.
Over the U.P. and Lake Michigan, the north winds are ushering in the coldest air of the season, which activates lake effect snow and transitions to the second portion of this snow event. Counties in the corner of southwest lower Michigan, northern Indiana and Illinois are set to receive a firehose of lake effect over the next 24-36 hrs, resulting in accumulations that could push one foot.
Portions of northern lower Michigan and the Saginaw Bay region are also set to receive lake effect snowfall through this evening, with amounts of 3-6 inches possible, with isolated higher amounts. #miweather #keweenaw #westernup #newberry #soo #gaylord #cadillac #traversecity #petoskey
