HARBOR SPRINGS AREA UPDATE via Harbor Springs Snowmobile Club – 02/26 What a rollercoaster of a winter, if we can even call it that at this point. So far we’ve had maybe 2 1/2 weeks of rideable snow & while there is more snow on the way Wednesday we are only supposed to get 1-3”. Unfortunately that will not be enough to get back out on the trails & temperatures will be in the 60’s by this weekend. The ground hog wasn’t kidding when he said spring would be early. Even though we can’t ride there’s still plenty of fun to be had, our sponsors always have somethig going on! State Road Provisions, Rusty Saw North, & Vernales are participating in Restaurant Week, running until this Sunday. Check out their pages to view their specials. Beach’s Up North Tavern is hosting a Squirrel Hunt on Saturday, check out their page for more details. Don’t forget to stop into Chubbs Marina & Market to get your ammo. Rain returns Thurs PM into Fri as temps moderate. However, icy secondary roads could develop, along with ice jams along rivers, and perhaps localized minor flooding. Within 24 hours of breakdown and recovery we had a track from the blade of the KCSAS machine to the blade of our machine! Great work and doing it trail side too.

Remember that 32° is the key temperature not only at the surface, but in the vertical. Any warmer and we trend more towards rain. Any colder and we trend more towards snow. Be mindful on bridges, overpasses, sidewalks, parking lots, etc. traveling Tuesday AM.
We do trend slightly warmer mid-late week. More 30s if not a few low 40s before another rain/snow mix returns late Thursday into the weekend.

We got roughly 6” of fresh snow last night followed by light rain and temperatures in the low 30’s throughout the day today. This weeks forecast is looking to be in the 30’s with a possibility of 40’s on Thursday, the rain/snow mix on Friday and back to snow and cold for the weekend.

Trail 7 (the railroad grade) will be closed from Trails End Road to Cadillac St in Mackinaw City starting today, Monday 1/5 for 3-5 days while soil testing is conducted. We will update everyone once that section re-opens. #harborsprings #petoskey #snowphotos
Today the crew tackled putting the track on the machine and made quick work of it! Can’t thank our retired groomer/board member Doug for jumping into action to help out today! Mike, Phil, Doug, Benny, Rich, Pete and Tom were all hands on deck and we appreciate each of them and their efforts! The last 72 hours has been a great team effort by everyone that helped out. THANK YOU!
We’re monitoring the weather this week and will take grooming day by day until the end of the week. Looks like Thursday/Friday will be our worse days with temps at or near 40, but the crews are in order to get everything groomed for the weekend after temps drop back down. Trails right now are the best they have been for this time of year in many years!
