Gaylord Area Trail Report – 02/15
Gaylord Bureau – February 14, 2024 – 12:04 p.m. Temperatures have been warmer than usual this month, which has melted most of our snow. Trails are unrideable at this time and there is little snow expected in the extended forecast. We’ll keep you posted on any changes with the weather. Check back for updates and trail conditions. Please remember that groomers have the right of way and kindly move off the trail so they can safely proceed. If you approach a groomer from behind, the operator will signal when it’s safe for you to pass. Groomers are here to make your ride more enjoyable so please be courteous! Its about 9 a.m. thursday morning and about 2 inches of snow has fallen in Grayling and Frederic so far. Schools are closed but I cant believe they closed for what has happened so far. I have talked to several people this morning as I left town yesterday. Here are my thoughts. We need a heck of alot of snow to be able to ride. Yesterday as I was walking around the building I could see rock hard frozen sled tracks from 2 sleds that must have rode thru last week during the mud bog. There tracks stood out big as day. Thats what the ground is like underneath. I am going to stick with my feeling that we need alot more of system snow than lake effect snow. I know we have to start somewhere with new snow. Riding today should still be o.k. but hard out there and thats better than mush. Already had first rider of the day in and his pic is below with a couple other pics to show the snow is holding. Presidents weekend is usually a big weekend, I still dont like the forcast for next week but we still have lots of snow in the woods and its a long ways from gone. Thankfully it never made 32 yesterday and if the temps do reach the predicted highs it should only be for a little while in the late afternoon. Its cloudy and quiet out there and hopefully the sun stays hidden. If you do ride just be careful of icy corners. Thanks for checking in. WEATHER UPDATE via Michigan Storm Chasers >> We know you'll pass by this post for snowfall today, but here on February 12th, 2026, it's quite a reflective moment to see just how far we have come this winter. Just a couple weeks ago it was lake effect snow every single day. Today, a light band of 1-3" near Munising is all we will need to write home about. We even tossed in some humor for those not in a designated snowfall zone. A couple slick spots will pop up along M-28 near Munising, and perhaps around Petoskey if a longer lake effect band happens to form, but this is more unlikely than likely. Just had a group of guys in that rode down from Gaylord and their trail report was not encouraging as they said it was rough. We really havent had any new snow in a week and I am not thrilled with the weather forcast thru next tuesday showing 30s and even a 40 in that time frame. Most all of the snow that we have is well worn now. My supplier is pretty much back ordered on many items that I need. I tried to get 20 different items and all but 4 of them are on back order. Carbides especially have been back ordered since early december. Here we are almost half way thru Feb and we should be in our prime time right now. I wish I had better to tell you.
