Newberry Trail Report – 12/01
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 12/01 Happy Opening Day everyone. We do have snow in the area. Reports are about 10 inches. The last couple of days temps have been just above freezing but that will help set up a good base. Trails are still under restricted use as we enter mussel loading season. December 15th is when all restrictions in the area are lifted. The gates at the trail head are going to remain closed until we get some more snow. That section of trail goes through some wet land that hasn’t yet froze over. The same for the gates on trial 45. If you want to come up and give it a go we would suggest trailering a bit north of town to either the Silvercreek trail head, Pine Stump, or the trail head north of that. Please go slow and watch for hazards on the trail. Michigan is going to showcase all seasons for today, March 26th, 2026. If you're heading north of M-55, a wintry mix will greet you. Snow totals of an inch, perhaps more will be possible, and a snow map will be out in a bit to showcase totals on a statewide basis. Meanwhile, summer is here temporarily as showers and storms move in by late afternoon south of Grand Rapids and Flint. High temperatures will be in the 60s, and even low-70s, especially south of I-94. More warmth means more fuel for storms though, so on a day like today, you should be rooting against warmer high temperatures to avoid severe weather. Speaking of temperatures, just an insane gradient from north to south. High temperatures in the low-20s for the Keweenaw Peninsula, while areas just south of the Michigan state line jump to near 80°F. Precipitation will start early up north, while southern Michigan doesn't start seeing shower activity until afternoon. More details to come in a bit on our severe weather, but the peak timing along and south of I-94 for severe weather will be after 3 pm EDT. Main severe weather hazard today will be very large hail, so it's probably a good idea to protect your valuables today if you're in the southern two rows of counties, just out of an abundance of caution. Bare with us today, it's a lot of information, but we've got you covered from beginning to end. Just about to the Sceny turn, wasn't so bad till I got north of Windy Corners, gotta scrape pretty well with the blade, but I noticed a little defect while out checking the tires.
Shot pics to Chad, we discussed, gonna use it but keep an eye it.
26⁰ not really alot of snow above our frozen base to plat with.
3 TASA Groomers out taking care of all of you for a great start Friday,.
Going to send this with 3 pics now, hope it works, keep you posted. 😁
1:32am Just turned around at Holland Lake, 48.4 miles hangin out at 26⁰ most the night.
Both Grand Marais and Seney have been through recently.
Have to use the blade to knock the snot outta most of it, turning out pretty good so far, no change on our Crack 😊
Headed to Pine Stump, then south.
Keep you posted.
5:44am Back to Windy Corners intersection. Had to dig pretty deep in quite a few Corners, busts up the chunky snow, again, still broken suger cube stuff, froze and thawed several times now, dont believe it will set up well and a porous flat surface.
Blending it all together on the way back. #newberry #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

There will be snow, lots of it more than likely, on our trail system. There may be some rough or bumpy spots, however weather permitting we will groom. As it sits right now, the weather forecast looks like we can groom this afternoon and overnight. Tomorrow is questionable. Thursday Friday and Saturday all are forecasted to be cold so I have every intention on sending groomers out on schedule. Remember, this is Michigan and the weather can change by the time I finish this and get it posted!
In closing I will say this. Come on up and plan to ride. The crazy 8's will be here. There will be snow. There may be some "snirt" especially coming into town. There may be some rough spots. There WILL be the pleasure you get from getting away one final time this season!! Ride right, ride safe.

30 degrees this morning and snowing. I`ve got a fresh 2" on my deck from last night too. Here`s what I know on the trails......
Groomer Dave ran the South trail #8 Sunday and said it turned out great.
Groomer Keith ran the Pine Stump trails yesterday and called them good.
Groomer Glenn hit the Point trails also yesterday and called them good.
It looks like the weather will hold off good enough to finish till the end of the season so come on U.P. this weekend for one last ride!!!!! Of course you can ride into April but we can`t groom after the 31st.
