Newberry Trail Report – 12/01

NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 12/01

Happy Opening Day everyone. We do have snow in the area. Reports are about 10 inches. The last couple of days temps have been just above freezing but that will help set up a good base. Trails are still under restricted use as we enter mussel loading season. December 15th is when all restrictions in the area are lifted.

The gates at the trail head are going to remain closed until we get some more snow. That section of trail goes through some wet land that hasn’t yet froze over. The same for the gates on trial 45. If you want to come up and give it a go we would suggest trailering a bit north of town to either the Silvercreek trail head, Pine Stump, or the trail head north of that. Please go slow and watch for hazards on the trail. Ride Safe and Ride Right

GRAND MARAIS UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> Trail update: I talked with 4 different groups of sledders today and it sounds like the majority of the crazy 8 trails are still decent riding. There are a few dirt spots in the hilly/curvy sections and other thin spots throughout. Two of them stated that they had been riding some ungroomed logging trails and unplowed trails with plenty of snow on those they rode.
We did not groom the last two shifts due to high temps. We are watching the temps, and if it gets cold enough, early enough, we may groom limited sections overnight, tonight. If not, Thursday night/Friday morning is forecast colder, longer with chance of lake effect snow Friday. We will continue to do our best with what mother nature gives us, to keep the trails rideable.
If you want to find snow to ride, it is out there. Definitely more snow on the non-groomed trails than the groomed ones, but still snow and rideable snow, at that. That is not to say there is perfect snow and no dirt. If you want to find dirt you can!!! The trail into GM is really thin, bare in some places, and rough. There is not enough base for us to groom it. A few commented that slow is the best policy for now!!! We appreciate the positive feedback and all the thanks we are receiving. We also appreciate all those that come up to our communities and support local businesses. Ride safe everyone. #grandmarais #newberry

Hey ,,big thank you for this Wednesday February 21st update. I was really getting worried that you were gonna say that the trails were completely shot..Phew.... Is there a particular map or place online I can search and maybe know exactly where some logging roads are near Pine stump..? Thanks

GRAND MARAIS UPDATE via Grand Marais Sno-Trails Assoc. >> Here are a few pics from Groomer Al, out on the trails the past couple days. We are doing our best with the conditions we have. There are dome dirt spots here and there on all of our groomed trails. The "outback" still has decent snow. If you enjoy riding, you can still get a lot of riding in. Most of the sledders I've talked with, are having a great time and glad they came to ride! #grandmarais #newberry #snowphotos ... See MoreSee Less

SENEY AREA UPDATE via Seney Snowmobile Association >> The groomers went out today and did trails 43, 8 and 431. Trail 43 has some water holes and is thin until you get up to Fox River Rd. North of that is in pretty good shape all the way to the Bear Trap. Trail 431 from town up to the bra tree is very thin and not great. But after the bra tree it's not to bad up to trail 9. We need more snow and there's not much base. Expect early season conditions and you'll be hitting rocks and some sand mixed in with the snow. We did the best we can with what we have. So if you want to ride better get up here and ride. Warm up come up again in the next few days. Consider this the most current report. Keep doing those snow dances we can always use more snow and colder temps. Wish we had better news. Not a normal season for any of the clubs at all this year. #seney #newberry #snowphotos ...
