Newberry Trail Report – 12/01
NEWBERRY AREA UPDATE via TASA – 12/01 Happy Opening Day everyone. We do have snow in the area. Reports are about 10 inches. The last couple of days temps have been just above freezing but that will help set up a good base. Trails are still under restricted use as we enter mussel loading season. December 15th is when all restrictions in the area are lifted. The gates at the trail head are going to remain closed until we get some more snow. That section of trail goes through some wet land that hasn’t yet froze over. The same for the gates on trial 45. If you want to come up and give it a go we would suggest trailering a bit north of town to either the Silvercreek trail head, Pine Stump, or the trail head north of that. Please go slow and watch for hazards on the trail. The trails held up reasonably well. It's taking a couple days to get them flattened out. The snow is quite sugary. There is snow in the forecast, so hopefully we can get a good fresh batch to lay down for this weekend. There are a few thin spots on H58 on the town loop, but we have been moving snow inward to cover those spots. We still have a lot of snow to work with, again its sugary so it is not packing in solid. The forcated snowfall will be welcomed, thats for sure. As long as temps remain good, we plan on regularly scheduled grooming of all the trails. After a brief lull this early morning, widespread snowfall fills in by mid morning, then tapers off from west to east this afternoon. Moderate to heavy snowfall rates are possible this morning into the early afternoon, heaviest over northern Marquette county.

The first round of a potentially active week of winter weather is set to impact the UP tonight through Wednesday. Widespread snowfall develops develops tonight, lasting through Wednesday with trailing lake effect snow into the afternoon. The greatest snowfall accumulations are expected across the northern central, mainly the high terrain of Marquette County.

44 degrees this morning under a mostly clear sky. It was sunny and 54 here yesterday and its supposed to be about the same today. We have not run the last couple of days and I can only imagine what our low land trails look like. It is supposed to cool off by the middle of the week and maybe snow a couple inches so I haven`t given up hope. We still have plenty of snow in da woods but the roads are bare around town and the dirt roads we use for trail connecters are all mud. We are having a meeting today and discuss a plan. Just wanted to jump on here and let ya`ll know whats U.P. Stay tuned.
