FREDERIC / GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic – 11/30 Forty degrees and sunshine… snow from earlier in the week is melting… <> Well we have one more day till the trails officially open. It also gives us another day of melting in the 40s which is supposed to happen for almost the whole week. Just like I thought when we had the awsome snow that fell earlier in the week. If you dont get out and ride it right then its going to be gone and thats exactly what happened. I am so glad Big John and I got out for a ride during the legal riding time between 11 and 2 during deer season. Now tommorow will be legal riding time but there most likely will be a slushy mud bowl. On the bright side I can get the rest of my signs back up. For those of you that are new to my page I am only open here in the winter and my new hours plan is that if the snow is not rideable if I have something else to do I am out of here. I am not usually to far away and the number of 989 Dig Snow rings to my cell phone. This is my 26th year in here so I have figured the weather patterns pretty well over the years. If there is good snow the sledders come rolling in. If you are heading north to the u.p. just call to make sure I am around. I also have trailer parking down the road at my storage facility if you don’t want to haul your trailer back and forth. Thats about it for now. Do some snow chanting cause we are going to need it. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Still a decent amount of wind out there this morning but not as stiff as yesterday. I only saw about a dozen sleds on friday and I see a few over at the swamp this morning probably having the breakfast buffet. Last nite I went there for a mushroom and swiss burger and they had a band. To bad the place was pretty empty. We had about 1 inch of fluff overnight and I dont expect to see to many people today. I had the loader come last nite to move snow at both my storage lot and my parking lot behind Sledheads. It was so bad yesterday after the thaw I needed that big equipment to make it more tolerable. Lake effect snows develop tonight, again most persistent in the snow belts north of the Mighty Mac. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> We lost alot yesterday, made it to about 40 degrees, lots of slush and very dissapointing considering how good it was. Winds are stiff and when this slush hardens up from the cold its gonna make it really rough. So here I sit in Sledheads and it will be a great day for pushing slush and watching t.v. Stop by and say hi if you are in the area. I do still have my rental cottage avaiilable if you want to come and just camp out there for the winter. I wish I had a better report. FREDERIC - GAYLORD AREA UPDATE via Sledheads of Frederic , Michigan Snowmobiling >> Its misty rain and 37 degrees on this thursday morning in downtown Frederic. Roads are wet. I finally did see some sleds out and about yesterday, 4 at the Frederic Inn and 5 at Bear Lake Inn and a few guys that drove in here this morning they said they stopped by here after I left yesterday. They had rode up to the bridge and back as they were from Ohio and staying here in Frederic. There is still alot of snow in the woods but things are getting slushy. Pics below are from this morning. Its supposed to drop in temp tonight but they are showing 30s on some of next week. Thats the best I can tell you. Thanks for checking in. Uncertainty exists primarily in our trace-1" category which extends from Frankfort and Alpena south to I-96/I-69. The clipper moving through today may produce a quick squall of rain & snow with minimal accumulation some time beyond 1 pm EST, but models haven't determined if this band will solidify or not. If it does, the chance for a rain/snow mix exists in areas highlighted in the pink dashed box. This rain/snow mix would only be today. Any snow on Sunday will be lake effect off of Lake Superior, hence why our highest totals of 4-8" are located east of Munising over to Paradise.
